Right: More money than brains. Like $800 for a Fiat electric motor scooter.

There's a certain type of person has been conditioned to respect The Hierarchy no matter what it's doing. Some have built their entire careers on that. As with everything else in his life, it's a power others spent decades building that Trump bought cheap and pretends he invented it.

For $1,500, maybe. $15,000 for a glorified golf cart, this is a definite "More money than brains" product.

In a lot of cases the craters are filled in with the rubble and debris of whatever was on top of them (eg apartment buildings). They didn't use the big stuff against street targets like ambulances or taxi cabs, only a few craters for those.

It's implied in the fact that mass atrocities always feature AGGRESSIVE dehumanizing propaganda. None of which would be necessary if the people carrying out those actions lacked empathy to begin with. Unless he's only talking about leadership. Implying all the top Nazis were psychopaths.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

Development doesn't happen in a vacuum. When people are forced to develop faster, they DO. For suburban kids, high school is the first time they ever have to take real responsibility for anything. For a 10 yr old fruit picker, not so much. For a 12 yr old on his 3rd foster family, even less.

The two best bosses I ever had were a white man. The two worst bosses (and also coworkers) I ever had were white women. I've only once in my life had a Black man for a boss and he wasn't really a "boss" so much as "playful unc who cooks the meat and signs our paychecks when we do good."

We pretty much always did. "AI" is what we called it when we were talking to casuals who didn't know the difference between predictive algorithms and expert systems or whatever. If anything we need a new term for bullshit tech that wastes everyone's time and money. Technoslop? Sloptelligence?

Should, yes. But that's my point: a lot of white Americans are using lsraeI as a kind of surrogate for their own ethnostate fantasies because they feel bad about wanting it for themselves. It's like all the middle aged failsons who walked out of Fight Club thinking Tyler Durden was the good guy.

If AI disappeared tomorrow, your email, car, phone, and most websites would all stop working. Video games would become incredibly boring, weather forecasts would stop working, and most forms of public transit would grind to a halt. OTOH if LLM tools disappeared, 99% of us would barely notice.

Though, to be fair, Pacific islanders mostly got used to the idea that volcano gods are fickle and ineffable and there aint shit you can do about them except stay out of the way when they get riled up. This is probably equally true of the forces that govern our economy today.

TheArcher @iarcher.blacksky.app · 29/09/2026
Culturally, we've been conditioned to think of The Economy as a general proxy for the health of our entire civilization. If things are bad, it must mean The Economy is displeased with us. We used to think this way about gods and/or volcanos. Neoliberalism is America's new folk religion.

Yeah but 1) A whole lot of them weren't on the right side 2) Native American genocide. Add 100 years of Jim Crow, redlining, massacres, and people remembering their racist parents/grandparents reacting to desegregation, you got yourself self-loathing jambalaya.

Yes. And it's always just projection. Deep down in the subconscious of everyone who identifies as "white" is the seething fear that some day the people their ancestors oppressed will show up looking for revenge.

Two consecutive back-to-back ponzi schemes that somehow devoured half the economy between them while everyone else got laid off, tax hiked, AND saw cuts to local services, all at the same time.

It's that and the fact that the people in charge keep telling us that there's actually nothing wrong with the economy and all the bad shit that keeps happening is SUPPOSED to happen. It's like calling the police after you get mugged and having the mugger show up in uniform to take your statement.
