Bumped into a local hero at the weekend.... I presented Julia Yarker with a Community Hero Award back in March for her work raising guide dogs and her contributions as a trustee of Southside Faithcare and a local food bank. I'm glad to report that trainee guide dog Kristal is doing well....

The SNP candidate tomorrow is a councillor from Cambuslang who lost an election in Rutherglen, sought selection in Shettleston and voted against £8m for Hamilton Town Centre. Only local champion Davy Russell will stand up for the communities of Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse.

I remember campaigning with John in the Inch in my constituency. We came across a 50th party in a garden. He walked straight in and was soon holding court, telling anecdotes but also getting our message across. A brilliant man. Condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.
