@imcmillan.bsky.social Not sure when you're next out & about but for travel listening I recommend Composer Of The Week on @bbcradio3bot.bsky.social with the blessed Donald Macleod on Cyril Scott; new to me but composer of some sublime pieces of early 20th c. music.

@imcmillan.bsky.social I seem to know less & less these days, but one thing of which I'm certain is that I couldn't have had a happier weekend than I did thanks to you, @yeoflittlefaith.bsky.social, colleagues & guests at Contains Strong Language. It was unsurpassed soul, interest & entertainment.

@imcmillan.bsky.social I saw this on my way back today. I've been going to Stockport for over 50 years and never knew of this till I saw it by chance; by the brilliant Alan Boyson in 1965 (he did the famous 3 Ships mosaic in Hull).

@imcmillan.bsky.social You probably have much to listen to already, but part of your journey westward could be soundtracked by The Essay, which is all about the impact of John Coltrane's music on musicians such as Steve Reich, Archie Shepp, etc. Very interesting stuff.

@gidcoe.bsky.social The Empire Theatre, Liverpool. My mates in Que Bono won a battle of the bands contest there. A judge was Ian Gillan, who afterwards was so intoxicated, he tripped and flew over a burger trolley in an almost perfectly executed somersault. Skill, or luck? Reader, you decide....

@mirandakitten.bsky.social @gidcoe.bsky.social I thought I should let you know that after a short (24 hour) illness, Joseph went to the vet's this afternoon, was found to be suffering from a type of pericarditis and had to be put to sleep. 'Heartbroken' doesn't begin to tell the story.

@mirandakitten.bsky.social I can't remember if I introduced my latest lodger; this is Joseph, who was rescued from some allotments in Beeston on the far side of the city a few months ago.

@rose58pf.bsky.social Hello Rose, thanks for the follow & I've reciprocated. If I may add an opinion to your bio about how one man can fo so much damage to your wonderful country & to the world; I thought that there are checks & balances in place which should safeguard against one man's madness.

@elizabethalker.bsky.social @bbcradio3bot.bsky.social Daybreak, listening to Unclassified, the morning's clarity matched by the music. Radio 3 offers so much, but of the straight 'presenter plays records' shows, Unclassified is head & shoulders above the rest. I can't praise the show highly enough.

@angelharpmusic.bsky.social Hello Angela, thanks for the follow, as I'm not handsome, have passed middle-age & am bereft of yachts or any other trappings of the nouveau riche, I think you may feel on safe ground with me. I had hoped to get to Darfield last night but didn't. It was fine today though!

@imcmillan.bsky.social Apologies to you and anyone else who saw my earlier post about Kenneth Williams' 'Gogol', I got the times wrong, it should have said 10.42 to 11.20 on BBC 4Extra. Thank heaven for the Sounds app! It sounded as stunning today as it did when I first heard it in 1991.

@imcmillan.bsky.social Good afternoon, I've just noticed that tomorrow on BBC Radio 4 Extra, 11.42-12.20, there's a repeat of Kenneth Williams' spellbinding portrayal of Gogol's 'Diary Of A Madman' from 1963. It is utterly brilliant & imo the best thing he ever performed.

@imcmillan.bsky.social A sombre, but heartfelt moment today as Geoff Hutchinson, whose efforts led to the creation of the wonderful Darfield Museum passed by the place we love so much, en route to his final resting place. A great man and a great legacy.

Station Yomp. A woman barks somewhat defensively into her mobile. "I haven't done the maths Clare". A café proprietor optimistically sets up outside tables & chairs in a howling gale; I can hear his teeth chattering 50 yards away. On the train a woman talks of interview upskilling & oat allergies.
