What better way to celebrate #NationalPoetryDay than with a poem about our mysterious Veiled Lady. Thanks to @kbrookes42.bsky.social for this poem about his favourite piece of art on display at The Cooper Gallery

J.B. Priestley died on this day 1984. In 1938 he chaired a Yorkshire Authors Dinner in Leeds. White roses, heather and bracken adorned the top table, a map of the county was placed behind Priestley and a vast Yorkshire pudding was brought in to singing of ‘Ilkla Moor Baht 'At’.

Incredible scenes as we slide from January into February and realise that yet again it's Monday night (and it's 5pm) so it MUST be time for Episode 4 of 'How light is it in #Orkney at 5pm this week?' We are NOT making this up. IT REALLY IS THIS LIGHT 💡
The view out the back of the library. The streetlights are on. The sky is a deep bright blue.

'Kirkwall Fair.' (1888) Although Arthur Melville was not regarded as one of the Glasgow Boys, he was seen by them to be a kindred spirit. A year after painting this work on Orkney, he left Edinburgh and settled in London, although he often returned to Scotland to paint.

If X equals bluesky Then I'll give it a try, Many followers have defected And now I have reconnected. Hoping for better days ahead Working from my garden shed, Inspiration is all I need Then all my followers will take heed. Not quite a sonnet.
