I know I’m in the minority, but I love this era of Sal. He gave an interview around then about how inspired he was by Bill Sienkiewicz and wanted to grow and experiment. Really cool stuff.

Joe Kubert's work generally swung back and forth between naturalism and expressionism as the story required. I always treasure the moments when he'd just say fuckit and swing all the way toward the expressive side.

Ok, This @eriklarsen.bsky.social cover for Amazing Spider-Man #1000 is pretty great. It's still quintessentially Larsen, but I love the Ditko-y feel to it, too.

Variant Cover to Amazing Spider-Man #1000, by Erik Larsen. It has a retro-style trade dress to evoke the 1960's and Spider-Man is posed in a very Larsen-esque pose, but with the color scheme and eyes on the mask that evoke Steve Ditko.
