Back in 2023 I first heard the pitch for Hollows, an RPG where you enter the personal hells of other people and destroy the monsters within, knowing that eventually you will end up becoming one of these monsters yourself. Today I finished running players through the personal hell of a PC they knew.

Anyway, those complex feelings about AI have got a lot simpler because a product I've used for years is now shitty and broken and I will be looking into replacing it somewhat sooner. I've gone from being a loyal customer who will buy an upgrade when it comes out to ditching it fast.

I have done one experiment in asking it more involved questions of the kind it's supposed to be able to do now. Discussion went wrong because halfway through it misunderstood my question and played an early 2000s r&B song that sort of rhymed with what I had asked it.

Plus it seems we can no longer have separate response voices for each home user and guests. This was actually useful on the old one because it was a way of us knowing whether it had recognised our voice or not, as it didn't always.

The weather doesn't work properly either anymore. It seems obsessed with telling me about a specific day of next week, rather than what I asked for. I asked what the weather's like. It decides it wants to tell me about next Thursday. I wanted today, dammit. It has gone meaningfully backwards.

Tomorrow is ben day on our street. Earlier I asked it what was on my calendar for tomorrow knowing that my calendar contains either the general waste bin entry or the recycling bin entry. This has been true for several years. Google told me I had nothing on my calendar. I have to check on my phone.

In our house we have long used Google home for controlling our lights, checking our calendar and the weather. Nothing fancy. Recently it switched over to using Gemini, and my feelings about this are complex. We'll probably move to something more open source long-term. But also it's utter shit.

The other day someone posted in an FLGS Discord I am in asking for assistance making Transformers characters in 5e. I asked if they had tried the Transformers RPG. They hadn't heard of it and immediately asked the FLGS to order them a copy. Sometimes it is that easy.
