That's it for this year! The 2027 #IgNobel Prize ceremony will take place in Antwerp, in Belgium, "a country that will first make you laugh, then make you think".
All the laureates are sanding at the front of the scene for a "pointless photo opportunity" (written on the screen behind).

NEWS: The case of Omega Centauri’s missing stellar-mass black holes is beginning to be solved with 20+ years of Hubble data and recent #NASAWebb data. Scientists detected a star in the cluster and found it to be orbiting a stellar-mass black hole: news.stsci.edu/3SUGysD
A Hubble image of globular star cluster Omega Centauri, which looks like a dense field of stars. Some stars appear a bit larger and brighter than others; most appear blue, orange, or yellow. The colors appear uniformly distributed, like grains of sand. Stars toward the cluster’s center are packed closer together, creating a more luminous area at the globular cluster’s core. A very small red square frame is superimposed on the cluster near the image’s center. It connects to a square pullout in the top-right corner, which shows the outlined area in greater detail. Among the blue- and orange-colored stars is a small blue-white dot highlighted by a small red circle.

Female birds with confusing names.
A six panel comic of female birds with confusing names, featuring a labeled portrait of each bird. In the first panel, there's a brown-headed cowbird with the label "entire body grayish-brown". In panel 2 there's a female red-winged blackbird labeled "orange-winged brownbird". In panel 3 there's a female black-throated blue warbler labeled "not-black throated" and "maybe some blue if you squint". In panel four there's a female scarlet tanager labeled "not scarlet" and "also, if we're being technical, not a tanager". In panel 5 there's a female red-cockaded woodpecker labeled "no red cockade" and "what even is a cockade?" and "don't worry about it". In the 6th panel there's a female northern cardinal labeled "mostly brown, despite being named for the red outfits worn by Catholic Cardinals" and "not allowed to become pope".

I had fun with #matplotlib before leaving for the weekend I wanted to do this #matplotart for quite some time, from a galaxy cluster image I'm working with. I blurred and rescaled it, took every ~100 line of pixels from the image, and made ridgeline plots with them.
Ridgeline plot: from bottom to top, succession of lines (filled below them) from black to blue to white, with random bell-curved features and a flat plateau in the center, going to the right toward the top.same, but in purple.same, but in yellow.same, but in grey.
