Welcome back to United Plates of America, where I’m cooking my way through all 50 states!
Today we’re headed to Pueblo, Colorado, home of the gloriously messy Slopper! This local legend is essentially a cheeseburger DROWNED in pork green chile, topped with cheese and onions. And yes, it’s every bit as delicious as it sounds. 😂
Pueblo is famous for its locally grown green chiles, making this indulgent creation a true Colorado classic!
🌶️ QUICK PORK GREEN CHILE RECIPE
Ingredients:
* 1 lb ground pork
* 1 small yellow onion, diced
* 3 cloves garlic, minced
* 2 cups roasted Hatch green chiles, chopped
* 1 jalapeño (optional)
* 2 tbsp flour
* 2 cups chicken broth
* 1 cup fire-roasted diced tomatoes
* ½ tsp each cumin, oregano & garlic powder
* Salt & pepper to taste
* 1 tbsp oil, as needed
* Squeeze of lime
Directions:
1. Brown pork, then add onion, garlic and jalapeño.
2. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add chiles, tomatoes, broth and seasonings.
4. Simmer uncovered for 20–25 minutes until thickened.
5. Finish with lime juice, then generously ladle over an open-faced cheeseburger!
Top with shredded cheese and diced onions, and prepare to get messy!
