"Listen, I love queer stories. I love horror. I love depressing and surreal atmosphere. I did not like this novel. The good: it’s a quick read, the cover design is attractive, and the text itself delves deeper into mental illness than many other texts I have read. The bad: the twists are far too plentiful and ridiculous, bordering on comedic. So much happened in the second half of the text that I felt myself getting whiplash, wondering what the purpose of yet another needlessly angsty confrontation between the friend group was. These characters do not feel like real people, and the events that transpire in the story feel far too manufactured to be believable. Maybe that’s the point? Maybe this book just ain’t for me.
