Got my #LudumDare entry done and submitted! The Amiga 12000 - a probably ill-advised starship from whoever owns the Amiga trademark these days... 😅 Not sure if the gameplay is any good at all, but I enjoyed making it look like the Amiga Workbench anyway […] [Original post on mastodon.ie]

Cover image for the game. There is an orange/red planet in the background with the star shining on the far side of it so most of it is in shadow. An Amiga-inspired spaceship is at the bottom, a cream wedge with several layers and lights like those on the Amiga 1200. Above that is the text "Amiga 12000".

Screenshot of the start of the game. The same ship and planet are present. At the top of the screen is an Amiga Workbench top bar. In the bottom left corner is a shell window running a program called "ami_ai.bin". It is reporting memory corruption, and then the AI is saying "Wha... Where am I?"

In-game screenshot showing the navigation window to the right of the shell window. There is a graphic of the ship and a starscape, with three especially bright stars labelled.

In-game screenshot showing the system information screen. It is a diagram of a star system basically, with the star on the left and planets and moons and an asteroid belt to the right of it.

The placeholder assets I prepared after the last jam are working out great so far #LudumDare #ldjam #GameDev

Screenshot of my Ludum Dare game in-progress. There is a large bright blue circle on the left, heavily pixelated, to depict a planet, on a dark blue background. There is a maroon rectangle to the right of it to depict a spaceship

The Kazakh flag fuckin' rules. I wish the Irish flag had an emblem on it (would probably be a harp, much less cool than a sun and an eagle but still) and some celtic knot stuff.

The flag of Kazakhstan. It is light blue/turquoise with an emblem in the centre of a sun with an eagle underneath it with its wings spread, in yellow. On the left hand side (where it would attach to a flagpole I guess) there is an ornate design in a vertical line, also in yellow.

So many changes since my last update. Finished the tower maybe? Might do more on the top floor, but maybe not. Embiggened the closest whale. Pants on the lady on the right. Hair highlights and hand details.

Same image as the previous toots in this thread, but with the changes described.

Started on the top floor of the tower. Pretty sure this is what made me quit the pixel art version. I think I am doing slightly better this time but it is still tough, it is a very busy structure and I'm not sure how to capture it without drawing every detail […] [Original post on mastodon.ie]

Same image as in the previous toots but now the top floor of the tower has the beginnings of a structure on it.

Y'know, not so bad now that I have the second side of the tower finished, actually. I went back to the unblurred shading in the foreground

Same image as the above toots but the shading on the women has been restored to the sharp-edged style, a second side of the shaft of the tower has been detailed, and there is some more detail on the sea floor (just blurry shapes and stuff).

Overall progress today. Tower still looks very flat...

New full version of the illustration from the above toots, with a bit more detail on the tower.

Also got this smoothed and glowy version, but not sure if I prefer it.

Same image as the parent toot but the shading on the women is blurred and the woman in the foreground is glowing slightly.

I decided to redo this abandoned pixel art piece that I started years ago as a vector illustration. Still an early WIP obviously. I had started moving towards a more natural palette in the original after starting out in this green/blue monochrome, I'm not sure […] [Original post on mastodon.ie]

Vector art image of two women swimming down towards the Eiffel tower. There are several whales swimming around the tower. The tower itself is just a block of colour so far. Everything is in blue/green tones.

Pixel art version of the same image. There is more detail in the tower and the women, and the women's skin is pink rather than green and has more detailed shading.

I SVG'd this character to use as the icon. Inkscape did the initial tracing of the pixel art and I added some details then and tidied things up. I like how it turned out. Makes me want to SVG some more stuff. #PixelArt #VectorArt #inkscape

The Civ V DLCs allow you to play as "the Celts", so I didn't have to pretend to be Ireland this time. And I still ended up with London 😁 #civilization #gaming #mastodaoine

Belfast, Limerick and Tralee are on a couple of other islands not pictured. The city state of Quebec is on the big island to the East of my border, and Germany and America are to the North.

[uspol, iepol] US tariffs may not be as bad for Ireland as feared, thanks to... Donald Trump's blatant corruption www.rte.ie/news/analysis-and-commen…

Screenshot ofbpart of the linked RTE article with the text: "One of the reasons for that is an extraordinary deal that drug giant Pfizer reached with the US administration last month.

It addressed a pet hate of Mr Trump: his concern that Americans are overpaying for medicines while consumers in other countries pay less.

Whether or not that is true, Pfizer agreed to lower prices on some products and sell them directly to customers in the US through Mr Trump’s own website TrumpRx.

In return, Pfizer will not be subject to tariffs for the next three years."

Discovered yesterday that one of the projects I maintain has a 16-bit application involved in its build process, and that's why it always had to be built on a specific computer (which is now dying).

Windows dialog box with the title "Unsupported 16-Bit Application". The text says it is not compatible with 64-bit versions of Windows, and to contact the application vendor for an updated version.

Photo of my ear. I have two piercings in my lobe. The bottom one has a 4G tunnel in it, it has been stretched to that size before but has had a smaller ring in it for a while. The upper one has a 12G taper in it. It had a 16G ring in it until now and has never been stretched before.

I don't think I even mentioned before now that this thing is animated. The shader it is based on could rotate and animate some of the colours like water. I've added an option to rotate a secondary noise source relative to the base one, enabling a churning/rippling effect.

[Misgendering of a fictional character] What are we doing here, c'mon?

Screenshot of the summary of the movie "Breakfast on Pluto" on Rotten Tomatoes, where the protagonist is noted as being transgender, but is misgendered throughout. Some of the pronouns are highlighted: "As a baby, Patrick (Cillian Murphy) is left by his mother on the steps of the rectory in their small Irish town. He's discovered by Father Liam (Liam Neeson), coincidentally his real father, and placed in an abusive foster home. By the time he's a teen, Patrick identifies himself as transgendered, renames himself Kitten and sets out for London with a rock group in hopes of finding his mother. Along the way he works variously as a magician's assistant, a prostitute and a dancer. "
