Get an old steel bike, something like this. This kind of stem (quill) makes it easier to get the bars high. Have a shop take a look at the bike and ask about a nitto technomic stem. Shouldn't be a huge investment that you'll feel bad about of you don't like it

I've been avoiding the queensboro bridge since the deaths last month, but every other bridge I have to cross also has the same issue with e-riders making reckless passes. The speed differential is simply too great for illegal e-whatevers to coexist with pedal bikes in tight spaces

This should be deeply embarrassing for the NYC City council. Paying interns would be one of the easiest and cheapest "lead by example" things that Council could do on equal access and living wages. Who can afford to do an unpaid internship for the summer? (not poor folk!)

Officially, they allow helmets! www.mlb.com/mets/ballpar... However, their security people do not know this and if you write an email to complain, management will gaslight you and say the guard stopped you for having bike tools

The Mets encourage all riders to wear a helmet. A reminder that backpacks and large containers are NOT allowed at Citi Field, but you ARE allowed to bring your bike helmet into the stadium with you, either as is or in small tote bag. It really seems like if we can just fix bad overtaking attempts, analog bikes could continue to coexist with e-whatevers. Limiting everyone to "no faster than Pogacar" on any 4%+ grade would get us most of the way there.

That said, their strip chip is MUCH easier to use than nasty solvents for stripping the factory grease off a brand new chain. The Silca pot was a good way to spend an unexpected windfall, but if I were buying today, I'd consider the cyclowax one too.

I started waxing, with a crockpot, old brake cables and coat hangers, maybe 15 years ago. It was better than the silca system for doing several chains at once, but was a bit of a pain otherwise. The silca hanger is nice and neat, but unnecessary.

This 9000lb truck has collected 29 speeding/red light tickets in NYC in 2025. Sure glad my tax dollars subsidized this purchase.
