You don't really need to include context for that one.

I'm assuming that they are more interested in the prospect of winning than in the managing of a fantasy team, but at that point just start gambling.

Someone: Many philosophical problems have been discussed for centuries and don't have easy answers. Bluesky: Aksually, the answers are pretty obvious if you weren't a literal nazi

Github Actions being down is like recreating the feeling of compiling back in the late 90's when it took 20 minutes to build and you just sat around waiting most of the time.

In the past week I've had Opus 1) Discover unrelated bugs and fixed them while working on something else and 2) informed me that fixes I've personally implemented didn't actually fix anything and that they fixed the real issue.

Yeah, I remember working with someone from a food shelf once that mentioned that it is much more cost-effective if you just give money to a food shelf so they can buy the food they need in bulk rather than donating a bunch of stuff that they might not need or want.

Which is appropriate as us Gen-Xers were never really handed the world (Boomers just kind of kept it for themselves) and we didn't really make it any better so now we are like, "Here. Sorry it's broken. Hope you can do a better job with it."

Dijkstra liked those sorts of turns of phrase. Like his well known, "Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes."

I really wish the world’s most dangerous, extreme anti-vaccine activist & conspiracy theorist, RFK Jr, who is a eugenicist & a MAHA dude who repeatedly peddles vile lies, had not been put in charge of the US health system Here he is telling truly horrific, dangerous lies about HPV & COVID vaccines
RFK Jr saying that the HPV vaccine increases the risk of cervical cancer & the Covid vaccine increases the risk of Covid—these are 2 dangerous lies

I met my wife through FB and probably got at least one job because of it, so regardless of how I feel about social media as a whole it has been a net positive for me.

This will never stop blowing my mind. A 12-year sequence of real telescope images of a star 133 lightyears away. And around it, four planets slowly orbiting. Four real exoplanets, each more massive than Jupiter, imaged as they move around their host star.

Here are some mouthpieces from Carnuntum (AUT). The army used different instruments for different things, but we can't as yet distinguish which mouthpiece came from which instrument (unless one is still attached!). Of course, they also had civilian uses (eg in the amphitheatre).
A selection of copper-alloy musical instrument mouthpieces found at Carnuntum in the Museum Carnuntinum. These could have been used with the cornu, tuba, bucina, or lituus (there is currently no way of telling which is which). Image: MCB (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Give him a break, he was turning... 50? Wait, that can't be right, I'M 50 and he looks old as hell in that movie. 50? Really? He's supposed to be 50 and that's considered OLD in the movie? WTF. I am not old.

If you want to see something use a lot of resources to do basic math and get wrong answers a lot of the time you don't need an LLM, just shoot it my way.

I think people outside of software development that have avoided AI (and some inside) don’t realize how good it’s gotten in the last few months because they don’t write code. Blocks of text are harder to judge the quality of, but code can be objectively better.

I had Claude build a progressively harder assembly language manual that required using features of the KIM-1 and it even tested all of the problems itself on the emulator. github.com/cantpitch/Ki...

This is something fun that I had Claude build that I've wanted to build for a while. It's a KIM-1 emulator that is cycle-accurate and has a number of features (expansion cards, debugger, assembler, cassette deck, etc.). github.com/cantpitch/Ki...

What if there was a hypothetical supercomputer capable of retraining the entire model every time new information was created or presented to the model? Obviously this would require insane amounts of compute, but I feel like it's more a quantitative rather than qualitative problem.
