Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 29/09/2026The thing I'm working on is camera firmware and it also wouldn't stop taking photos and analysing them to see if the video engine is working I was like my guy (not literally) stop doing that, I can just use my own eyes. ☠️ 010
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 29/09/2026I'm doing some hardware stuff and I had one that just wouldn't stop restoring the device to a known good state when a test failed, and it would eat so much unnecessary time. Cutting that down with a "don't nurse the device" instruction was such a massive improvement 010
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 29/09/2026Deleting and rewriting the same post with minor edits? I would never. Listen it's 6am let me live 000
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 29/09/2026Being an American company doesn't mean the US "saved the world" though. I'd argue if anything, that was Germany considering the underlying tech, process and vaccine itself were developed by BioNTech. Nobody outside of the US thought of this as a US achievement. 440

Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 28/09/2026This is me, yes? Thank you so much for this beautiful gift! Jokes aside, I do love it. Combining the BOTW/TOTK aesthetic with Majora's Mask works surprisingly well 120

You're trying to deflect blame from the networking engineers who intentionally flooded the network." What a helpful discourse that would have been. 011
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 27/09/2026But this is also true in the UK. My boyfriend got diagnosed privately because of the massive NHS waitlist. Unless I'm misunderstanding? 010

Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 20/09/2026Well, one stick broke. They want me to send in both. I really worry they're gonna be like "We don't have replacement, here's your money back" and I'm without the 16GB stick that still works, and is now much more expensive . 000
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 20/09/2026My 32GB Ram Kit which I bought a year and 9 months ago for 44€ and that now costs 330€ broke. Great. 101

Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 18/09/2026I think an alternate way to fix UDM PROs with failing NANDs in the future would be make a custom circuit board that connectes to the cable for the front display, have a little usb hub on that, and piggyback off of that connection. Just have to still somehow disable the internal NAND, or maybe 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 18/09/2026It was extremely finicky and frustrating work, but hey, he paid 140€ instead of the normal 350€ :) Worth it. Spent about 10 hours on it (my soldering skills yesterday SUCKED) 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 18/09/2026Fixed a UDM PRO. Got it for the boyfriend as defective, the storage was failing. My reballing skills suck so I broke the replacement NAND, ended up soldering to the USB of the NAND controller and put in a USB stick for the OS, will be safer for the future anyway. 100

Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 15/09/2026Seems to be dead VRMs. other power supply didn't help. disabling PSS makes it *Seem* stable so far. so I'm guessing something about the vrms is fucked in a way that makes them unable to switch voltages/loads fast enough 000
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026Seems to be the power supply. Removed the hard drives out of the bays and it is no longer crashing. Now I'm unsure whether it's the PSU, or an internal regulator. This thing does have horrendous coil whine when 2+ hhds are installed... 110
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026One of my server keeps crashing :( Like, the entire thing just locks up. I thought it was just a RAM seating issue but no 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026Man, I have SO many projects that I started over the years and never finished due to losing interest. Not gonna lie, LLMs have helped me pick them back up It's also interesting to see how best practices and the communities "go-to tools" have changed since I wrote the original code for some of them. 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026Please don't actively block all of this Ubiquiti, it will never be as good as your real native cameras, and it's just so I/others can reuse old hardware more efficiently (without the RTSP/ONVIF overhead) and to keep it out of landfill. Thanks <3 000
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026These cameras are surprisingly capable if you have control over the video engine, lol. The microphones sound downright good if they don't go through the stock Yi rmm daemon. 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026Its sister project is a complete replacement for the cameras cloud/video daemon "rmm" to get more control over the feed, such as removing the watermark, or changing bitrate and video settings from within Unifi Protect. Not released yet, but Proof of Concept is working. 100
Hutch @hutchx86.dev · 14/09/2026I did a thing. Custom firmware that lets you use Yi Home/Pro/Whatever cameras in Unifi Protect, as if they were native cameras.
