I saw Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in theaters 11 times in the summer of 1999 and I can vouch that this is not true it's like Avatar, it's an *experience* in theaters (saw it again in 2024 and can verify), but it's still bad and we knew that at *latest* by fall 1999 when it was on video

watched Weapons (2025) last night and it was an incredible horror film highly recommend I'm not sure if the filmmakers intended for that final chase scene to be so gd funny but it was hilarious and also absolutely perfect way to end the movie, I'm still giggling about it

it's not that hard to turn mercury into gold, you just gotta hit it with a lot of photons that are higher energy than ~10MeV or so. I can do this in my lab any day. it's just the cross section is such that the cost to make the necessary photons is much more expensive than the Au/HG price difference
