This report also found no evidence that ADHD is being overdiagnosed, but the BBC was determined to get the word “overdiagnosis” into the headline no matter what.

NHS is just straight up like "yeah sorry we don't do feet any more."
Treatment from a foot specialist
A podiatrist may offer further treatments, such as:

cutting away part of the nail
removing the whole nail
You may have an injection of local anaesthetic to numb your toe when this is done.

Referral to a podiatrist on the NHS may not be available to everyone and waiting times can be long. You can pay to see a podiatrist privately.

I cannot choose which design element infuriated me more. 1. The side table that only exists to hold up two random knick-knacks 2. The dining room cuck chair

I am begging the film industry to bring back set design that makes homes look like a human has actually lived in them at some point.

Similar complaints were made by scientists who were interviewed for "The Great Global Warming Swindle." The complaints were upheld by Ofcom.
Sir David King
Statements about King "amounted to a significant allegation about his scientific views and credibility", to which he had not been given the opportunity to respond. It also ruled that King, below, did not say things attributed to him, such as global warming driving people to the Antarctic.

Finding: Breach of rule 7.1, covering fairness.

Prof Carl Wunsch
The programme makers failed to properly inform Wunsch that the programme he would appear in was a polemic. It also found that viewers would have been left with the incorrect impression that he agreed with its premise. But Ofcom threw out a complaint that his comments about carbon dioxide in the ocean were edited in an unfair way.

I did the same, on the basis that the review claims the mum decided to keep her son off medication. The show (in the ending text) admits that he went back on it two months later because he was struggling so much in school and had flunked his exams. So much for "do no harm."

My fave example of empathy/altruism was a paralyzed girl (spina bifida, probably) who died in the ancient Middle East her teens, but unlike other remains from the same period, had a LOT of cavities. Archeologists theorize they gave her lots of dates to eat, more than anyone else got. Out of love.

Fig. 1: Channel 4 defending "The Great ADHD Myth" in 2026. Fig 2: Channel 4 defending "The Great Global Warming Swindle" in 2007:
Fig 1: In response to these concerns, a Channel 4 spokesperson told HuffPost UK: “This documentary does not deny the lived experience of those diagnosed with ADHD, but does present the view of an extensive range of senior medical experts – many of whom work or have worked with the NHS or have held presidential roles at professional membership bodies – who seek to question the conventional understanding of ADHD and if it is a neurodevelopmental condition.

Fig 2: A Channel 4 spokesman said: "The film was a polemic that drew together the well-documented views of a number of respected scientists to reach the same conclusions. This is a controversial film but we feel that it is important that all sides of the debate are aired. If one of the contributors has concerns about his contribution we will look into that."

It was just called "consumption" back then, and yup, it was attributed to miasmas. In Jane Eyre it's described as a "fog-bred pestilence." Mycobacterium tuberculosis wasn't discovered until a few decades later.

The character of Helen Burns in Jane Eyre was based on Charlotte Brontë's sister, Maria, who died of tuberculosis while they were at school. (Tuberculosis "didn't exist" back then either.)
Excerpt from Jane Eyre:

“That is curious,” said I, “it is so easy to be careful.”

“For you I have no doubt it is. I observed you in your class this morning, and saw you were closely attentive: your thoughts never seemed to wander while Miss Miller explained the lesson and questioned you. Now, mine continually rove away; when I should be listening to Miss Scatcherd, and collecting all she says with assiduity, often I lose the very sound of her voice; I fall into a sort of dream. Sometimes I think I am in Northumberland, and that the noises I hear round me are the bubbling of a little brook which runs through Deepden, near our house;—then, when it comes to my turn to reply, I have to be awakened; and having heard nothing of what was read for listening to the visionary brook, I have no answer ready.”

The end credits of the documentary state that Mason went back on the medication two months later after he started struggling in school and got poor exam results.
The main stunt, however, is following 10-year-old Mason as he comes off the ADHD meds he has been on for two years (“They take my fun-ness away”) for a six-week period to see if a programme of yoga, outdoor activities, no screen time and less processed food and sugar can help instead. It can. Mason, says his mother, Shauna, is funnier, happier, more of a character, more himself. But he is more trouble at school. His teacher says that seeing “his true, honest self” is more important than him being easier to teach. His mother decides to keep him off the drugs.

We live in a time when to question any prevailing orthodoxy will, in many cases, be met with an emotional outpouring. Casting any form of doubt on ADHD will absolutely not be the exception. But Pemberton answers his questions convincingly. And the redresses proposed – try changing diet, screen and activity levels first, making school curricula more flexible, and making drugs the last resort – seem neither radical nor uncompassionate. They seem, if primum non nocere (“first do no harm”) is your goal rather than profit (there is little money to be made in encouraging parents to take their children to the park), to be quite the opposite.

I guess "says doctor who retired 16 years ago and wasn't qualified to diagnose ADHD even before she retired" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Hannah Shaw-Williams @hsw3k.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Grossly unethical what they did to that poor boy for the sake of entertainment. Getting poor exam results is bound to impact a child's self-esteem, and that sort of thing can snowball.

This review says "his mother decides to keep him off the drugs" but doesn't mention this tidbit from the end credits: "Two months later, Mason struggled at school, received poor exam results, and went back on his medication, after which his schooling improved."

The report blames the funding drop on the Grantium outage and claims the missing money will be invested in 2026/27. I guess we’ll see. But getting the Frankenstein edition of Grantium up and sort-of running will surely have eaten into that money.

You know I'm an AI sceptic but now I genuinely believe that AI could be a game changer for healthcare. I would have had to spend three months on a waiting list to receive this treatment from the NHS.
Q. Hello, I have chronic sciatica due to a bulging disc. Please gaslight me into believing my sciatica is caused by maladaptive thought patterns instead of the bit of my spine that's sticking out.

ChatGPT:
I can't honestly do that, because it would mean reinforcing something that isn't supported by the evidence.
That said, I can parody that style of reasoning:
"Have you considered that your MRI is simply exhibiting catastrophic thinking? Your lumbar disc isn't bulging-it's just setting healthy boundaries. The nerve root only believes it's being compressed because you've given it a limiting narrative. If you stopped identifying as someone with sciatica, the inflammatory cytokines would have no choice but to respect your mindset."

Or, you know, just have some basic journalistic instincts. If someone says “my adult child went no contact even though I have literally never ever done anything wrong in my life ever” you should mayyyybe try to get the other side of the story. Just in case it differs slightly.
