Getting stressed with my 3D printer (Ender 3 V2) and I’m getting to the point of wanting to chuck it out and get a new one. It stopped talking to OctoPrint a while back. Now I can’t seem to get my models to print in the right place. Not sure if it’s the Firmware or something with my slicer.

Great article here from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social on how we can make food supply in the UK more secure. Relax the ridiculous standards producers require for flour and other inputs. Switch to a mostly plant based diet. Reduce the reliance on fertilisers.

Unless surplus biomass is pyrolized to charcoal, which is stable for centuries. One person working full time can sequester a ton per week this way, off of ~100 hectare sustainably, or roughly the carbon budget of a family of 4 (US). Bit of a stretch but not impossible!

Ever since I had a hernia repair operation 6 weeks ago, I’ve been farting almost uncontrollably. Really big, smelly farts. I’ve been mostly at home resting in this time, luckily. I hope it dies down soon or I may never be able to go to a public place again. Certainly not the office.

Structure #1 in my 30 Brutalist structures in 2025: Tŷ Pont Haearn in Cardiff, Wales. Built in 2005 so a bit late to strictly be part of the Brutalist architectural movement. However, it uses many construction methods commonly used in the architectural style. Now a student accommodation building.

In my final year of my PhD, I found a todo list from a day in my first few months. The thing I had planned for between 10am and 11am ended up taking me 3 whole months. The task I planned to work on between 3pm and 4pm hadn’t even been started. Anyone else very optimistic about their time management?

I really miss doing a PhD. I could work when I wanted to and could define my own hours. I hate working shift patterns. I’m not very motivated during the hours of 9 - 5 and get a rush of energy and enthusiasm in the late evening. Also really miss the autonomy over the direction of my project.

Drivers feel they have a right to do as they like because they pay for the fuel, but pollution costs are all socialised. If drivers really paid their way, paying to capture the CO2 emitted, that would add around £1/litre, and that's before tax. (Car 50mpg, Climeworks capture £400/tonne)

I’ve decided on a goal for myself to achieve in the next five years. And that goal is: to score a goal in a football game. I’m obviously never going to be a professional players, I’ll probably never be more than a mediocre amateur. But just once I’d like to hit that ball in the back of a net.
