I found that really strange. I never had to sign anything other than when I was foreperson on a different case (just a DUI. I did that one blindfolded with one arm tied behind my back). I had to sign the verdict form.

One thing that really surprised me is how informal a lot of it was, especially during jury selection. I don't remember having to show identification other than the postcard I had gotten calling me for jury duty. Same thing when I was in county court. Did you have the same experience?

I can't tell you how hard we laughed in that jury room. The lawyers, judge and clerks could not figure out what was so funny. They could hear us in the courtroom.

It drives me crazy when people say that they never want to serve on a jury. I always ask them who they would want on a jury if they were ever on trial. They never have a good answer. I was happy to serve and would do so again in a heartbeat. Small price to pay to live under the Constitution.

No. I didn't read a newspaper the entire time or watch the news on TV. We were given parking spaces under the courthouse, and we found out later there were snipers on the roof when we were deliberating and bringing in the verdict. One of the worst parts was actually listening to a guy die on tape.

It really was. 18 strangers (until 1 died-not in the jury room. We all went to the funeral) locked in a room with no windows not allowed to talk about the one thing they had in common. Turned out to be one of the most fun times of my life. Nothing like jury room humor. I could tell you some stories!

Amateur. I served 14 months on a federal jury (not a grand jury, we were there every day). RICO trial, 6 defendants, 3 main charges and 102 predicate acts. Murder, extortion, prostitution, drug dealing, you name, they did it. Served on 2 other juries after that. It was quite the experience.
