I cut Mamdani a little slack because of the blizzard, but come on. You’re the mayor of the biggest city in the country. Leftists are looking to you as what representative leadership actually looks like. We can build a better city together — just don’t leave your trans constituents behind. Please.

Instead of "Oh my goddddddd" + an article with a misleading headline, you could state what your problem with the article was. Clearing up any misconceptions someone might take away from the headline or preview/blurb would be nice too, but I understand not everyone has the time or energy for that.

I'd argue that we should do our best to inform others, and sharing misleading headlines is not our best. The defeatist attitude that there's not much to be done when people aren't reading the actual articles makes no sense when we could just take a moment to explain what's happening.

That's completely fair! I think it's still a good idea not to spread misinformation on what's actually going on, though. Mamdani is not restarting the same sweeps previous administrations have done, but most people will read the headlines and assume that.

Honest question, here: Have you actually read any of the articles you've linked? Or the reddit thread? They add a considerable amount of nuance to this discussion beyond the headlines. Besides that, the NY Post is not an unbiased news source when reporting on Mamdani. Neither is the New York Times.

I just don’t see how we can pretend even for a moment that anything involving our federal government is remotely normal when the president is covering up his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Like, what are we doing here

It's refreshing to see people aren't taking this at face value. I was losing my mind when random people - all over social media - kept bringing it up, without seeing any problems with the original post. In fact, they made it worse by spouting bio-essentialist bullshit and blaming trans women.

Found the source of that Reddit meltdown. Reddit Link: www.reddit.com/r/AnarchyChe... Tumblr Link: www.tumblr.com/sexhaver/789...
Summary from Tumblr User sexhaver linking to the trans man OP of a post on r/trans that got removed, and which has triggered an absolutely shitstorm on trans Reddit:

in the interest of full transparency, here's a repost of the original post that started this shitshow from the original OP. to summarize:

he opens by explicitly saying that he wants to discuss the "unique issues" trans men face, and that he isn't trying to have this "be some oppression olympics thing". "It's not that trans men face less oppression than trans women; it's that trans men are talked about and cared about so little that many people don't actually know the shit we go through."
his next point immediately claims that trans men are raped more than trans women based on three studies. one of these studies bases its results on responses from a grand total of 87 binary trans people, and the other two studies are different analyses of the EXACT SAME SURVEYMONKEY POLL (which also happens to have 4x as many trans men respondents as trans women, hm)

his next point is just him getting angry that all the discourse on bathroom bills is centered around the trans women they explicitly target, instead of men like himself. he manages to find two (2) articles supporting his claim that trans men are primarily affected by these bills before giving up and opining that "I'm sure there are more but unfortunately any discrimination trans men face is largely not reported in the media as the news likes to pretend trans women are the only type of trans people there are." mhmm.
his next point finally actually addresses an experience unique to trans men, like he claimed he was going to do at the beginning, instead of just rehashing MRA talking points about how men statistically have it worse than women, like he was doing up until this point! he mentions that testoterone is a controlled substance in the US and that he refuses to DIY it for unspecified reasons. this concludes the only section of the post where he actually does what he promised in the intro.
also OP's only post on r/trans before this post was complaining about the "nobody talks about how the bathroom bills affect US" thing, it's extremely obvious what angle he was shooting here.
in summary: this is bog-standard bad faith tMRA shit and the only argument against the mods removing it is that doing so drew more attention to it and made this dumbass antifeminist a martyr figure

Tattletale Squared - Lisa and her doppelganger, inspired by Chapter 25 of Placeholder, an amazing metafictional Worm fanfic by @hqm.me #parahumans #tattletale #wormfanfic
Tattletale (left) looks unimpressed while conversing with her future self in plainsclothes. The latter wears glasses and is trying to convince Tattletale of how good she looks. Sketched in black and white. Lifted from Chapter 25 of Placeholder by HQM.

This is the single most important advice any creative person needs to hear. There are of course factors such as financial insecurity or mental and physical impediments (spoons ≠ motivation even though people will tell you they are the same) but when you can, do, whether you feel inspired or not.
A big misconception is that you need to be motivated to get rolling.
You don't.
Research: Motivation often FOLLOWS action, not the other way around.
In Practice: You don't need to feel good to get going; you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good.
