Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026"But Howard, how is the dark matter visible?" False color rendering of gravitational data. And it's meta-stable dark matter, not the stable "WIMP" stuff that dominates the real universe. Some Schlockiverse dark matter can clump, and do chemistry. 2180
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I need to work my way up to doing 50 per day. Right now my body quits after 20. I think if I do ten at a time in five sessions with 30 minute breaks I'll be okay. 2111
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I've been timing myself. The first one (after half a dozen practice runs) took 6 minutes. Most of them take about 3 minutes and 30 seconds. If I push for speed I can do one in 3 minutes flat, but I can't sustain that. 160

Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I took FEMA training 25 years ago. Best survival advice for disasters: shoes next to the bed. If you run outside naked but with shoes on you're more likely to survive than if you have clothes on but are barefoot. The FEMA guy had numbers for this. So... shoes next to bed, then relax. 2436
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Tim-Tams are fine. I don't crave them, though, and won't eat more than a couple, not even if the bag is undefended and there are no witnesses about. 100
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026Marmite doesn't trigger it, and apparently there's much less folate in Marmite. "Vegemite and cheese" crackers don't trigger it either, but that's not surprising. Crackers -even the good ones- aren't really food. They're spoons that you can digest. 1100
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026The same thing happens sometimes when I peel an orange. Hindbrain says "PUT THAT IN US RIGHT NOW." I'll kill three or four clementines before the voice stops. I've long associated it with a temporary nutritional deficit. I first noticed it when I was in college and eating terribly. 170
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I really like vegemite, and will eat a spoonful right out of the jar. It's probably my hindbrain crying out for the folate in the stuff. About two teaspoons per day, and then my hindbrain doesn't light up at the smell. This isn't comfort food or an acquired taste. It's something primal. 170
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026This brand also offers a Vegemite and Cheese flavor. It was utterly unlike both vegemite and cheese, and I say this as someone who has eaten quite a bit of both. Those tasted like dirt and disappointment with a bit of added salt. 290
Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I tried some of these Australian pizza-flavored crackers. The flavor is faint, and pizza-adjacent. They taste like someone ran through the room with a Hot Pocket. 7270

Howard Tayler @howardtayler.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Muir Woods was amazing, but the best trees we saw were along the 101 a day's drive north. "DAYTIME HEADLIGHT ZONE" the sign said. Yup. The avenue was narrower than a Manhattan roadway, and the skyscrapers were designed to eat all the light. 3830
