ANDV has a higher CFR (30%) than Lassa fever (overall 1-2%, hospitalised about 15%), but again data collected prior to Covid 19. Not trying to be all doom and gloom, just emphasising that care and caution are needed.

To give a frame of reference smallpox had a CFR of around 30%. Luckily Hantavirus Andes (ANDV) appears to have a lower R0, just above 1.0. However, that number is based on studies done before repeated Covid 19 infections compromised so many peeps' immune systems.

Seems the precautionary principle has been thrown out the window. All the lessons we learned from the mishandling of SARS-CoV-2 are being ignored and we're just repeating the same mistakes. With a CFR of 20-35% for Hantavirus (Andes strain) we can't afford to get this wrong.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning. Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.
