Willich shows up often at Chickamauga, usually when things looked bad. Which was pretty much both days.

I agree. Hiding the poster was bad for the drama he was looking for. At first I thought it had to be because he knew his case was weak but now I think he really thought he had Smith dead to rights. But then why not let him squirm?

Maybe he didn’t want smith stalling and using up Schmidt’s time?

The Dems whiffed on this as a wedge issue: while many conservatives are horrified that non-criminals are being deported, many others firmly believe the every undocumented worker is already a criminal and deserves whatever punishment they get. The former and the latter should be fighting each other.

On the other hand, in 1992 I drove through Munich on a Sunday morning and an old guy saw my US military plate at a red light and asked me to roll down my window. He was in the Italian army in the war and was a US POW in New York. He said, "I ate better there than in the army! I love America!"

Stalingrad is one of the battles I studied for a course. Something like 300,000 German soldiers were trapped in the Kessel and perhaps 30,000 were airlifted out. The Army surrendered, and after the war, 5,000 returned to Germany.

This, 100%. They take for granted that these things will be there when THEY need them, but in the meantime, all those other (non-deserving, lazy) people shouldn't be using those programs.

That's the example I used! It STILL didn't convince her. They're determined to believe that nothing bad will happen to them.

And they'll say it in personal conversations, too. Recently a conservative friend told me she didn't want tax money going to others b/c she'd made good decisions and didn't need anything. Everyone else should do the same. She was completely unconcerned that unforeseen things might happen to her.

In training, we used to call these DIP Missions (Die In Place) because there's nowhere else to run to once the enemy figures out where you are. Not that he cares.

...Anyone following the old President's orders is now performing their own coup and can't get a pardon from the no-longer-President." There could be some holdouts or confusion, but essentially, the gears of government will grind them into dust.

In 2021, there was a lot of discussion about "what happens if he just doesn't leave the White House?" and the best response was, "At noon on Jan 20, the Secret Service detail moves over. His current staff stops getting paid. Everyone loses their facilities access and authorization to give orders...

Insisting that government "make a profit" is missing the point. We use government to protect freedoms (from invasion, from crime, from predation, etc.) and to enact programs that we need but there is no profit motive to entice the market to provide a solution. VALUE is the key, not profit.

This is a concept where Dems seem to have adopted the Republican framing. In general, if something can be done profitably, private industry does it. Government exists to deal with things that need to be done but aren't profitable, or with things that are inherently predatory if done profitably.

This should become the universal way of referring to him. It slices apart his tough-guy routine. Even non-tough-guy Infantry officers go to Airborne School and Ranger School. If he didn't, then all the push ups and bench presses are just posturing.

Huge corporations like Amazon, Walmart, and Uber are among the top employers of SNAP and Medicaid recipients. Meanwhile, their CEOs are raking in multi-million dollar pay packages. How is this not a bigger scandal?

Ran into this a lot as a product manager in the corporate world. Everyone thought they had veto rights on things that didn't concern them. PJ O'Rourke said years ago that true power is the ability to say yes. Limited power is the ability to say no. Most people have limited power, and they use it.

Being descriptive here, not prescriptive. I think they should have higher priorities, but big companies rarely do.

American businesses have no higher priority than making the maximum money they can make. If a President will punish them for straying, they'll fold. I think that's shocking for us because American politics hasn't been like this for a while, if ever. But this is common in the history of fascism.
