Day 2 of #inktober. I see a *lot* of tarot cards cos my gf is very into them, and I like the aesthetic of the original Rider Waite deck. Especially the hierophant who definitely *isn't* a Catholic cardinal, nope, no way.
A figure in a red robe, elaborate hat and white stole sits. Their right hand is raised with two fingers held aloft. Their left hand holds a stick with three cross bars. It's not a Catholic cardinal, honest. It's also not an Orthodox priest, honest.

I felt an overwhelming urge to draw yesterday, the strongest I've felt in a while, and it wasn't until I had finished my piece that I realised it was #inktober (subliminal knowledge?). So here's my day 1.
Black, white and grey drawing of a mech. It has a sword in its right hand. It's got lots of panels and angular armour bits which serve indeterminate purposes. It's kind of Gundam with a bit of Warhammer 40000 titan to it.

Anne Hathaway has been giving the lesbians what we want in a Cate Blanchett kind of way for years, and I think she deserves more recognition for that.
Anne Hathaway on the cover of Elle. She is wearing a silky lining black suit jacket and trousers, with only a bra underneath, and she has ear rings right up the side of her visible ear and she's wearing some rings on one finger but in a menacing way, and she's looking at the viewer in a way which reads as both seductive and threatening and there might be some text on this cover, I don't know, I can't see past her.Anne Hathaway is on her knees in a blue c18th style jacket and brown jodpurs, knew high black boots and she has a sword. She's passionately delivering a line to a mixed race woman in a black and white dress with a red shawl. This is clearly a scene from Twelfth Night which is the most lesbotronic Shakespeare play and I need her to wave her sword at me.Anne Hathaway is on another magazine cover, I think. She's wearing another black suit, this time with a white shirt, and she has her hand on her hip like I've been a very very bad girl and she's very disappointed with me and I need punishing.Anne Hathaway is getting her face touched by Michaela Cole, in a scene from the film Mother Mary which has no heterosexual explanation. They are both wearing black and are surrounded by white sticks of light and you could cut the sexual tension with a rolling pin, my goodness.

My current fave heatwave game is finding out about how everyone's boiling hot cats are only doing the bare minimum to cool down while simultaneously being furious about being hot. Here's a picture of my idiot who won't stop going in direct sunlight despite being black. She's so mad she's roasting.
A black cat with white toe tips lying on her side in a crescent moon of defeat at the hands of the sun. One sage green eye is open and looking directly at me, accusing me of turning up the thermostat on the world just to inconvenience her. She's lying on a green footstool with a purple fleece blanket under her, not the considerably cooler wooden floor underneath. She has one brain cell and it's been thoroughly cooked.

Lupita Nyong'o is Helen of Troy. Lupita Nyong'o is the new James Bond. Lupita Nyong'o read all 100 of the novels on that Guardian list and thinks 28 of them are overrated. Lupita Nyong'o has already won the Scottish Premiership and will win the English FA Cup later today.

I grew up in Britain in an Irish family, and it was only as an adult I really noticed the contrast between typical 'Irish jokes' in British culture and the poster in our hallway of the titans of Irish literature. We punch so far above our weight in literature, comedy, etc, and yet the stereotype...
The poster of Irish writers. A 3 by 4 grid with pictures and quotes from JM Synge, Flann O'Bren, Oliver Goldsmith, Jonathan Swift, Daniel Beckett, WB Yeats, Brendan Behan, Oscar Wilde, Patrick Kavanagh, James Joyce, Sean O'Casey, George Bernard Shaw. It's the original version of the poster because it lists Beckett as still alive.

There's a group of famous season ticket holders who the United fan base have given the self-explanatory nickname 'the Old Trafford Sikhs'. One of the family apparently was at the 1968 European Cup Final. Radcliffe doesn't understand United even a fraction as much as those guys.
Six British Asian men, sat in a row at Old Trafford. They are all wearing red shirts, mostly Manchester United replica kits, and Sikh turbans. They are intently watching the football. Five have black beards, one has a grey beard. Honestly, they look a bit fed up. Based on the kits, I think this is the 2010-11 season where we didn't lose at home, so maybe this is the West Brom game which we drew?

Medusa (2021) It's on Shudder but it's not really a horror, it's a psychological thriller with a heavy Dario Argento influence. Brazilian woman in a weird evangelical cult starts to lose her mind and find herself. The ending absolutely slapped, truly invigorating finale.
Poster for Medusa. A woman's face but split into three. The top slice shows her hair and forehead in normal lighting. The middle slice shows her face covered by a smooth white mask at night, only her eyes visible. The bottom slice is her mouth and chin, lit with a weird green light.

The greatest slide I've ever made.
A stage. I'm standing to the right of the picture, talking into the microphone about the emperor Ai of the Han dynasty. A projected slide takes up most of the picture. It is captioned "Emperor A.I. of Han". The emperor's picture has been altered so that his hand has eight fingers, splayed in a hideous fashion as if he has been created badly by an A.I. image generator. To be clear, I made that image myself, manually, in Photoshop cos I'm not using the water-sucking plagiarism machine even for a joke like this. I handcraft my bad/good visual jokes.

I love this picture my mate took of me during my history talk on Saturday.
White woman with dark hair in a ponytail, stands in front of a projected image which says "Achilles" and has a picture of Achilles from a Greek vase. The woman (it's me) is wearing a patterned bomber jacket, a green t-shirt and a honeycomb shaped necklace. I'm holding a microphone and a paper script while looking to my right with an expression which says "Why are the Victorian historians trying to make these obviously queer mythological/historical figures straight?". I pulled that face a lot on Saturday.

Hitchhiker's has at least four visual versions of Marvin (see the live radio play and 1994 collectible card versions attached) and they all look different, which I think does prove that this HP show isn't aiming for artistry at all. It's fine to not like any of the Marvins but at least they tried.
Radio live Marvin, a puppet with an old fashioned radio for a head and a reel to reel tape deck for a body, and microphones for legs. Adorable.Collectible card Marvin. Smoothly metallic with large glowing triangular pink eyes. A few small circuit lines appear at his wrist and ankles. Haunted.

If you fuse Irish and Ethiopian, you get the absolute legend that is Ruth Negga.
A very nice head shot of Ruth Negga, a woman with light brown skin, big brown eyes, incredible eyebrows and short curly hair styled upwards. She's gazing off camera and thinking about how she will next light up the TV or cinema screen. She appears to be wearing a t-shirt made of doilies. It is unclear if the doilies are a nod to her Irish heritage (drinking tea) or her Ethiopian heritage (drinking coffee).

I am, indeed, a #TypicalHistorian at all times.
Holly giving a history talk. She's a tall, white, dark brown haired, 40 year old woman. She's crouching down on a stage in front of a projected slide which has the words "Medieval Britain" and "Sodomy!" on it, along with pictures of Anselm the archbishop of Canterbury and king William II. Holly is wearing black trousers, skater shoes and a gold coloured silk bomber jacket with stitched Japanese style cranes on it. She's holding the microphone right up to her mouth. Honestly, she looks like a lesbian dressed as your terrible white boy ex who thought he could rap. William II is wearing French shoes with curly toes, which Anselm hated and thought were the behaviour of a sodomite. He probably would also consider Holly a sodomite even though her shoes are American and not curly.

One of the reasons Portrait Of A Lady On Fire (2019) is perfect is Sciamma's use of wordless scenes that utilise two of the most physically expressive leads in cinema today to tell everything via movement. It could be a silent film except the dialogue is also perfect so keep it.
Picture from the portrait of a lady on fire. The two leads, Noemie Merlant and Adele Haenel are either side of the frame, looking at each other with scarves wrapped around their mouths. The background is a dark cave wall and the scarves are dark colours, so the eye is most drawn to the top halves of Merlant and Haenel's faces which are clearly visible as they are both white. Intense lesbian staring is taking place, they are so horny for each other right now.
