The consensus used to be that benefits were set at a level to ensure that recipients maintained their place in society. Austerity broke the intentions of the system and benefit freezes have increased the divide. The undeserving poor are a necessary part of the Tory ideology. #r4today

When I stopped listening to #r4today because of John Humphrys blinkered views, I was aware that he, himself, accepted how divisive he could be and eventually left. Justin Webb has no such awareness, and the programme listeners will continue to decline.
