As far as I can understand the situation is currently that creators make the content that engages people on YT for the PROSPECT of income, corps then claim that content unfairly, stuff it full of ads and STEAL THE MONEY from TRANSFORMATIVE work. Reading this crystallised why the below worried me. JK's contention has always been that she ✨️supports trans ppl✨️ - she simply wants to preserve "female" as a legally relevant sex category etc etc. We can't let apparent tolerance throw a cloak over the relentless bigotry inherent to her cause

It does feel like scientific understanding is getting markedly worse. The confounders alone are making my head melt a little. Just ADHD being associated with higher rates of depression & anxiety would make any broad claim impossible

I used to have very romantic ideas about growing your own organically, until I saw labour required to produce fits and starts of not enough calories (mainly in the form of courgettes). It's a nice supplementary thing and a healthy hobby, but that's about as far as it goes.

It's the claim of the leaders of the movement, who have become millionaires selling "free birth courses" etc. So I guess its othering in the sense that its "followers" who get hurt (I highly suspect they are less than honest about their own commitment to avoid midwives and modern medical care)

Free Birthers are interesting on this. The initial claim is that overmedicalisation leads to adverse outcomes, like antivaxxers etc. But 'natural' birth is so dangerous it quickly became "well, that woman/baby wasn't pure/strong enough to survive". It accelerates the clear end point of the ideology
