There’s some actual courage there — something that has been lacking in British politics for a while — and courage is only courage if the outcome is uncertain.

Achtung Baby was in its moment a real sidestep from the mainstream. I don’t know if it was precisely what led me to, say, “Loveless” or “Everything’s Alright Forever” (I think the beloved Annie Nightingale played her part) but it was a route marker that told me I was headed the right way.

I feel like that about anesthesia too. Know that you’re going into it swaddled with love.

I understand the historical reasons for the NC Council of State model even though it's stupid now and I resent Steve Gas Pump Troxler but "the corrupt legislature can reassign powers in the lame duck to some random office that has never ever held those powers" is actually a structural failure.

If by some miracle there's a D trifecta in NC in 2027 the absolute priority has to be a stack of constitutional reforms that bind executive powers that are currently floating around to actual fucking offices. Council of State whatever but you cannot be having control of elections reassigned.
