Anyone help? Vague recollection of someone describing an activity during the confession & absolution where the kids put paper flowers in the font, which unfold as they soak up the water. Maybe from Godly Play? And what was the explanation?⚓

Am leading a church service next week. The saint of the day is Joseph Butler. Can anyone recommend an extract from his works that I could use? The regular attendees will be able to cope with old fashioned language. #JosephButler #TEC

If all goes according to plan, in a few hours, a crew of astronauts will begin a journey that will take them on a loop around the moon. Here's a video that NASA put together to help people visualize the journey through space, first orbiting the earth before looping around the moon and flying home 🔭

Anyone willing to comment on the economics of selling prayer books? Prayer Book Offices by Church Publishing is very expensive. It's currently on sale at a well known online retailer with 32% discount. But does this mean Church Publishing makes a loss? ⚓

In Puerto Rico, the tradition, as I learnt it from my neighbour, is to pray for someone on the anniversary of their death for seven years. Seven years ago today, Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, leading (after a botched response by a racist US government) to over 3,000 deaths. Pray for Puerto Rico.

"What does it mean to hold God in your arms and know that you're dying?" We marked Candlemas yesterday. Here's a little poem from my latest book about the thing I find most incredible about Simeon.
The Temptation of Simeon Theodochos

By Jay Hulme From The Vanishing Song

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Messiah. Luke 2.26

If you won't see Death before
you see the Messiah

Keep Your Eyes Shut.

Don't enter the temple to God's call,
you've gained immortality after all -

why listen to the songs they're singing?
Why hasten towards your ending?

Don't hold death in your arms
and proclaim it

Life.

But you're stood in the temple already,
praising this child you've seen.

Oh Simeon - God-receiver - enraptured in an
instant, answer this one question, please:

What does it mean to hold God in your arms
and know that you're dying?

My friend, you misunderstand -
as I held The Christ to my chest
I saw Death

fleeing away.

Now we come to Christingletide, where in ancient British tradition, the Christingle King goes from church to church distributing oranges, sweets, ribbons and candles to children. Money was also collected for the poor. Suppressed by the puritans, it has enjoyed a revival since the 20th century. ⚓
