Love this cute illustration of my 🐕🐘 research! Thank you to Trais for designing it and the Office for Social Partnerships and Research Promotion at the Institute for the Future of Human Society for making it happen 😍
I study the behaviour and cognition of group-living cooperative species to understand the evolutionary origins of human social behaviour, focusing on dogs and Asian elephants because both can cooperate with humans and members of their own species. Comparing different species helps uncover whether aspects of social cognition are shared or uniquely human. One example is reputation formation: human children judge others by observing their interactions, and I tested this in dogs and elephants (as depicted in the illustration).

Happy #RaccoonAwarnessDay! I know they're often referred to as trash pandas, but I get to experience them in their more 'natural' habitat where I live. I love them. They are intelligent, curious and best appreciated from a safe distance. #mammals 🌿
A young raccoon perches in an ornamental crab apple tree surrounded by leaves and orange apples. A sleepy raccoon keeps an eye on the photographer from its perch high in a poplar tree. A raccoon balances on a rock on the water's edge and looks over its shoulder at the photographer.
