SwiftFairy 2026.9.2 is out. Large audits now take seconds, not minutes, and use far less of your agent's context. The video shows a pattern I've noticed agents often write: Binding(get:set:) in a view body, and the labeled subscript SwiftFairy steers them to. tools.nilcoalescing.com/swiftfairy

Sometimes we want a gradient to span the whole plot rather than restart within each mark. In Swift Charts, alignsMarkStylesWithPlotArea(true) gives marks a shared gradient alignment. Learn more in our book, Swift Charts Beyond the Basics: books.nilcoalescing.com/swift-charts... #iOSDev #SwiftUI
Swift code applies a vertical indigo-to-pink-to-orange gradient to a BarPlot, followed by alignsMarkStylesWithPlotArea(true). Two stacked charts show identical bars of varying heights. In “Mark-aligned gradient,” every bar contains the full gradient. In “Plot-aligned gradient,” the gradient spans the plot, so shorter bars show only its lower colors and equal vertical positions share the same color.

Building a sunburst diagram in Swift Charts
Swift Charts can build a proper sunburst diagram, but the fun is in the details: `SectorMark` rings, radius ratios, angular insets, grouped data layout, and accessibility labels that don’t get treated as an afterthought. The result is a multi-level donut chart where the outer rings still line up with their parent categories, which sounds simple until you try to fake it by hand. Who doesn’t like a chart that looks custom without becoming a pile of custom drawing code? This is a good reminder that Charts has more range than the usual bar-and-line dashboard screenshots suggest.

Sometimes we want a chart’s domain to include a value beyond our data. Rather than setting an explicit domain, we can append it to the values Swift Charts uses to infer one. Explore more in our new book, Swift Charts Beyond the Basics: books.nilcoalescing.com/swift-charts... #iOSDev #SwiftUI
Swift code on the left uses chartYScale with an automatic domain, calling domain.append(90.0) inside its closure. On the right, two stacked bar charts show identical daily order counts from Monday to Sunday. The upper chart, “Automatic domain,” scales to the data. The lower chart, “Including 90,” extends the vertical scale to include 90, so the same bars appear shorter.

A calendar heat map looks simple until dates from later weeks form a staircase and VoiceOver groups every Monday into one inaccessible column. Normalizing weekdays into a reference week fixes the geometry; replacing the plot’s accessibility children with a matching synthetic grid restores day-by-day navigation and month headings without throwing away Swift Charts’ date-based model.

Time-series data is often aggregated to align with calendar periods. In Swift Charts, passing unit: .day centers values within each day and expands bars to span its duration. Discover more in Swift Charts Beyond the Basics: books.nilcoalescing.com/swift-charts... #iOSDev #SwiftUI #SwiftLang
Swift code passes unit: .day to the x values of an AreaPlot showing expected parcel throughput and a BarPlot showing delayed parcels. Two seven-day charts compare the result: with the unit, values align with each calendar day and bars span the day; without it, values sit at exact midnight timestamps.

To show missing data as a gap in Swift Charts, insert NaN at the missing position. This interrupts a line or filled area without splitting its series or changing its accessibility identity. Learn more in our new book, Swift Charts Beyond the Basics: books.nilcoalescing.com/swift-charts... #iOSDev
Swift code on the left and two stacked temperature charts on the right. The code creates an AreaMark with reading.dateTime as the x-value, reading.degreesCelsius ?? Double.nan as the y-value, and “CPU” as its “Component” series. This retains each reading’s time while substituting NaN for a missing temperature. The upper chart, “Adding NaN values,” shows two gaps in its line and filled area. The lower chart, “Skipping missing data,” connects the available points across those intervals. Supplying NaN creates visual breaks without splitting the data into separate series or changing the series’ accessibility identity.
