As I near the end of my undergrad, it's clear that I would only do a graduate program with an emphasis on research if I wanted to make myself and everyone else around me as miserable as possible at the low cost of tens of thousands of dollars. For no reason other than I hate writing MLA citations.

Industrialization has had long-term harms overall and was still dangerous and exploitative, but working towards a future where machines can ethically, cleanly, and efficiently help us provide for one another without killing ourselves is a noble goal!

A lot of bozos fetishize this kind of thing (think cottage-core people) and then and then, most of these people never actually had to do any of this; it's a matter of aesthetics.

On the other, industrialized farming ended up saving so much time and yielded so much more food that could be ruined with bad luck. It also meant that entire families didn't have to give their lives to one extremely physically demanding profession.

On one hand, plenty of observers at the time foresaw the effects of pollution, and even the dehumanizing and alienating effects of a mechanized society that living online has only exacerbated.

Reading a lot about 19th century British agriculture and the effects of industrialization, and it's quite instructive in seeing a fine line between embracing modernization without letting it consume you.
