The new third rail of American politics is that you can’t criticize this culture.

what I would really like to know is how this utter dipshit (a) became a millionaire and (b) got onto a Presidential debate stage

something I can pretty much guarantee about these is that corners are being cut somewhere, it’s endemic to Chinese manufacturing. they’re just too new on the scene for it to necessarily be apparent where corners were cut, but whew buddy when people hit 75k miles on these things.

to be clear this is also happening on the left. there is a reason why normie politicians of the 2000s/2010s era are out of vogue on both sides.

one of the real negatives of the Trump era is that most of the Bush-era GOP has simply been erased from existence, like it might as well be irrelevant that it hasn’t been 20 years since they tried to privatize Social Security and wrecked the global economy.

Lina Khan was ahead of her time. Not enough people saw the very obvious slippery slope from allowing Uber to declare “we’re a rideshare, not a taxi service” and make regulations surrounding taxi services not apply to them.

It’s weird how they never seem to talk about what exactly the benefits are but they’ll spend all day telling us how much this is going to fuck up everyone’s livelihood and possibly kill everyone.

People thought Musk was a genius because the original Teslas were the first EVs that had any appeal to anybody who didn’t specifically want to advertise that they were driving an EV, and it says negative things about legacy automakers that they did not see this first.

“Democracy is inefficient,” says man who would be hanged, drawn, and quartered as a threat to the king in any medieval kingdom, instead of merely being told he can’t build a data center.

Trump pumping out AI slop might well be turning people against AI faster than any pronouncement from Altman or Amodei ever could.

Impossible to understand how anyone could look at Rufo's career and conclude he was someone engaged in a "forthright defense of meritocracy." Rufo's entire career is built on the idea of purging people who don't think or look like him from positions of power.

“Brin might have to sell his Google stock to pay it and in the process lose control of Google” yes that is the fucking point you fucking morons, like why do we allow Silicon Valley moguls to dip into people’s retirement funds and also maintain despotic control over the company?

I have had a “do not click” policy on Ezra Klein long before that. His conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates was really the last straw for me. He is a guy who thinks his personal platform for politics is more important than the outcome of politics in real life, for other people. Lost the plot. Unworthy

The fact that AI people keep constantly trying to force it on us when we say "no thank you" does not speak well of their intentions, to be charitable.

What a lot of irreligious people don’t want to admit is that the religious arguments against AI are much, much better than the secular ones. The Pope doesn’t have to pretend that AI slop has any value to society.

It's hard to tell which is weirder: the fact that these guys seriously suggest that models like Claude have consciousness/sentience or that they actually invest time and money (weird!) trying to convince the Pope as well as theologians and legal scholars of this belief.

sometimes fairly, sometimes not, the dems get criticized for being too cautious, sober, and boring compared to their republican counterparts, but the best time to run a FUCK THESE GUYS campaign was 2024 and the next best time is now, and rolling into october, it looks like that’s where we are headed
