The DC exurbs remain spectacularly American, for example this Islamic Cemetery, Vietnamese Buddhist temple, landscaper, and McMansion all on what looks like the same colonial land parcel. (Outside Frederick).

Since it’s his middle name, I’d guess that Levens might have Maryland roots. Dorsey is an old Maryland name, and in many parts of the DMV, Dorsey is as common as Jones or Smith - they are everywhere!

“I am opposing a social order in which it is possible for one man who does absolutely nothing that is useful to amass a fortune of hundreds of millions of dollars, while millions of men and women who work all their lives secure barely enough for a wretched existence.” ~ Eugene Debs
A vertical poster in ink and watercolor. A ramschackle house in the foreground contrasts with a mansion on a large estate in the background. Against a cloudy sky is a quotation in black block letters: "“I am opposing a social order in which it is possible for one man who does absolutely nothing that is useful to amass a fortune of hundreds of millions of dollars, while millions of men and women who work all their lives secure barely enough for a wretched existence.” A placard leaning against a fence says, "Eugene V. Beautiful essay that resonates. “You had to be there for bus coins + paper transfers… for how bad Relisha Rudd’s disappearance messed the city up… how crack, fent, + K2 made everybody lose somebody even if they never died. You may love #DC, but this pride has come from generations of love + loss.”

There’s a lot in the CNN report that brought me back to the rage I felt 24/7 earlier this year. But the quote about Bovino targeting schools to try and piss us off made my blood boil. I saw it. They parked two blocks away from my kids’ elementary school and waited until drop off to scare kids. Evil.

🧐 I would like to hear this professor clarify how explicitly assessing residential districts according to the “infiltration” rates of Negro, Jewish, and “subversive foreign” populations is not racist. …On second thought, I would rather do anything else. Including watch paint dry.

Indeed! (I realize my insomnia-driven posts were a bit muted; to be clear, am thrilled by this result.) It really does feel like seeing the light @ the end of a nearly 30-year tunnel, from Tony Williams to Green Team to today. Cheesy, but: I think Hilda Mason, David Clarke, etc are smiling.

4. After living under occupation, experiencing mass layoffs, and witnessing the desecration of beloved civic institutions + spaces, my hunch is that most DC voters cast their ballots for the candidate most willing to defend the city.

2. Longtime residents were split along class lines more than race. Wealthier precincts in whiter wards (2 + 3), racially mixed ward 4, and majority-Black ward 7 tended to support McDuffie, but not always; eg, in her own backyard, JLG won Crestwood but lost Colonial Village / Shepherd Park.

Hilary Malson @hildistrict.bsky.social · 17/06/2026
My interpretations: 1. McDuffie’s campaign didn’t seem to be legible or compelling to newer residents, who overwhelmingly live in central neighborhoods from Petworth to Buzzard Point. That’s not a homogenous swath at all, as far as income, race, housing type; yet most aligned in supporting Janeese.

Hilary Malson @hildistrict.bsky.social · 17/06/2026
I’m mesmerized by this map. Many obvious returns: JLG took areas like Takoma + LeDroit, McDuffie won Hillcrest, Foxhall, etc. But others defy easy explanation. For example: JLG swept every precinct in wards 1, 6, + 8, from Congress Heights to The Wharf, but lost Carter Barron + Kenilworth.
