Here’s the big news: We’re currently pacing 90 days ahead of our 2025 adoption rate! That’s three extra months of second chances and lives saved. Better yet - our Working Cats program is also ahead of schedule, having placed nearly 20 cats into their preferred living situation.

The unfortunate reality of animal rescue is that things can quickly go south when you’re working a difficult case. Sadly, that’s the result with McWhorter who unexpectedly passed while starting treatment.

180

Harmony House for Cats @hhforcats.org · 26/06/2025

Everyone, meet McWhorter - they have quite the story to tell. hhforcats.org/support-us/

A close-up of a Siamese or Siamese-mix cat with dark points and a white coat, eating from a white ceramic bowl. The cat appears elderly or in rough condition—its ears are torn and its fur is patchy, possibly due to age or a difficult life outdoors. A person in a gray sweatshirt is gently holding or supporting the cat in the background. The scene is calm and nurturing, showing the cat receiving care and food.

A dramatic nighttime rescue scene: a man in a neon yellow shirt is standing knee-deep in murky water, pressed up against a tall, rusty steel retaining wall that lines a canal or drainage area. He’s holding a cat close to his chest with one arm and using a flashlight to guide himself with the other. Tall grass and chain-link fencing are visible above the wall, and the light from the flashlight reflects off the water’s surface.

Now safely out of the canal, the man in the neon yellow shirt is smiling and holding a cat carrier. Inside the carrier, the rescued cat is visible through the small porthole window. It appears to be the same Siamese or Siamese-mix cat from the first photo. The background shows a quiet street at night, lit by a streetlamp, emphasizing a moment of relief and success.

A wide daytime shot of the canal where the rescue took place. The scene is more peaceful here. The water is calm, and there’s dense greenery along the metal retaining wall. In the corner, at the base of the wall near some rocks, the cat can be seen curled up—most likely the same cat from the rescue. The location looks isolated and difficult to access, highlighting the challenge and importance of the rescue effort.

141

Harmony House for Cats @hhforcats.org · 03/06/2025

Feral and behaviorally compromised cats suffer under confinement and are much happier living outdoor lives. When these cats land at CACC, they lack humane outcomes and are at risk of euthanasia. Knowing CACC faces a struggle each day with an increasing number of animals, we could no longer stand by.

I wasn't joking when I said kitten season was just around the corner! We received a message recently from a person we've rescued from before. A momma and her crew of seven kitten had landed in her yard in South Chicago in mid-March and she was looking for advice and help.

Two small kittens are lying on a red blanket with a white heart pattern. One kitten is dark gray with fluffy fur, and the other has a mix of gray and light brown fur with stripes. They appear to be looking at each other, nestled closely together.

A small, fluffy black kitten with blue eyes is lying on a red and white patterned blanket. The kitten appears cozy and relaxed, with part of its body slightly nestled into the soft fabric. There are hints of other kittens or dark fur in the background.

The picture shows three small kittens snuggled together on a festive red blanket decorated with snowmen and Christmas-themed patterns. The kittens have fluffy fur, with two of them having dark coats and one with a lighter, tabby pattern. They appear cozy and content, nestled closely for warmth.

Real talk - I adore this cat. Yeah, she’s got some wobbles and doesn’t have any teeth. She’s been through a lot. But she’s also tenacious. She loves to join a scuffle and asserts herself. Her attitude is something we can all use right now.

So @gin-and-chthonic.bsky.social and i went to @hhforcats.org’s Felines and Valentines open house today and we met. SO MANY SWEET KITTIES 😻

Chips, a brown tabby cat with white patches, in a cat bed with her eyes closed, loving the head scratches she’s getting

Fish, a gray tabby cat, patiently asking me to pet him while we were loving on his sister, Chips

Trick-or-Treat, a black and orange calico cat with a white face, chest, and paws, and big yellow-green eyes

A mostly-white cat with small orange tabby patches and a pink nose, leaning halfway out of the basket she’s laying in to be petted. iirc, her name is Naruto (?) and she’s missing her ears from having had frostbite before she was brought to Harmony House
