It can also be helpful in handling repetitive processes like workflows to route tasks to appropriate actors in the system & to make decisions based on availability & role/knowledge sets. One may say that can be captured &baked into workflows, but I’ve found most often no one wants to do the work.

Large sets of data that would take humans days, months or years to evaluate are everywhere, particularly as logs used often to find security intrusions. AI can also take on massive classification tasks, assessing large corpa of documents for sensitivity, personal information & functional topics.

I don’t use AI at all, not professionally or personally. That said, I have at least 2 thoughts: 1. Generative AI is a gross overreach of compute power in the creative space & should not be there. 2. AI does have a place in specific sectors, particularly in large data set analysis and classification

At the end of it all, democracy has to work with the diversity of the people it governs. But there also has to be one or more decisions made on a subject, otherwise committees just keep studying and spinning their wheels. Not to say consensus cannot be reached, just not everyone will be happy.

Given enough money, an “interest group” can flood the field with their views and data, drowning out other voices. Sometimes they can even co-opt groups that have close enough messaging and values to “make things more efficient”, shutting down alternate viewpoints.

What is happening is that virtually all democracies operate on the old “squeaky wheel” principle - make enough noise and you get the attention. Worth noting that everything about his life is paid for by the taxpayer - all the McD’s Filet-O-Fish 🤢 he can eat, his travel, abundant security, everything is pandered to. Everyone involved, from Musk on down should, in my mind, be doing time in a federal penitentiary, but instead they’re are all freely roaming about and at least one has a trillion dollar personal valuation. And so it goes. But yes, it should be changed. Not holding my breath for that to happen.

I don’t think the punishments are appropriate to the potential nature of the violation of trust and security. Things like what I’ve seen of the DOGE mishandling of American Social Security info gets my blood boiling because that is a huge violation of government data handling.

My use of the term was more in relation to how embarrassing events are handled by government, at least as I’ve seen things happen. Sensitive blueprints in a public garbage can on a street? Investigated, person found, fired, nothing more. Embarrassed a minister? Demoted. Mishandled info? Wrist slap.
