This. Free in Canada to give birth & subsidized daycare is very affordable, IF you can get in. My son got in last month & he just turned 3. The waitlists had 200 families ahead of ours when I signed up right after giving birth. For 2 years we had him in a private dayhome and it cost us $800/month. 💀

Reading to my son is one of my favourite parts of the day, even when I'm dead tired. It's about the bonding experience, not the mechanical act of reading something aloud. What a miserable existence these tech bros lead. I hope they snap out of it before their lives pass them by.

My family wanted to know if I was worried about AI destroying my industry, and I was like man, there are so many more immediate threats (The streaming bubble bursting, the Hollywood conglomerates merging, children's programming on the decline) that I said that AI is like, threat number 5 at best

I agree, but under the current system I would worry that it would just lead to those indies doing the same shit as big corps. Something something late state capitalism. Not to say it isn't possible, I just think that level of funding has to come from somewhere other than shareholders.

I used to have this notion when I was younger that these jobs were about skill and skill alone, but so much more than skills go into being a good designer: good work ethic, ability to take and implement feedback, knowing about a lot of stuff, not being an asshole, etc

The more time I spend in a pre-production design role, the more I feel this is a job you need so much life experience for. Being able to pull ideas from things you have yourself experienced or know about is really the secret sauce.

Went camping this summer and kids were loudly playing hide & seek in the woods at 10pm. I was like on the one hand, hell yeah my little dudes that sounds rad. On the other hand, if you wake up my toddler who is sleeping in the tent I will explode 🙂
