Jayvik fancomic. Title: separation anxiety. Panel 1: after an emergency procedure, viktor is pushed on a wheelchair by a vintage nurse. They reach a waiting room. Panel 2: jayce rises suddenly from his seat, stiff as a board. He’s holding something, and viktor gasps. I- jayce, is that for me? Panel 3: a tomato-red jayce is revealed to be holding a large bouquet of pink flowers. I didn’t know what to get you, and the doc said… no sweets until tuesday! So i got you the inoffensive option. To his side, viktor snorts a huge incredulous laugh. He’s delighted. Jayce bristles further and says, you can’t be upset! Next panel, he bows his head shyly. I… I am really, really glad you’re alright, viktor. He offers the flowers to his partner, continuing. To your health, I hope you’re my partner for many more years. Viktor smiles as he reaches over. He touches jayce’s wrist with both hands on his way to pick up the flowers and allows himself to linger. Jayce looks on the verge of tears. The colors of the art simplify, touchy feely pastel pink. Viktor says thank you, jayce. This is, ah, a very considerate gesture. Like you. I’m not planning to go anywhere else, anytime soon, alright? Jayce breaks and begins sniffing. He hides his flooding eyes behind his palm. Viktor slips a thumb beneath his gem bracelet and tugs, keeping them together.

Page 2. A row of 3 panels. Viktor holds the ball of pink flowers to his chest and averts his gaze. A quiet beat, then he says… may you wheel me to my room now? Er, people are staring. Panel 2, chibi jayce flaps his crying face on his elbow like a washing machine to dry out the tears. Panel 3; cartoonishly disheveled and with his face all puffy, he throws a thumbs up at viktor, making himself sparkle. Yes! Jayce says, on it, partner!

Summary:
Jayce had gone missing years ago. Lost to the feverish pursuit of something in the same mountains that had almost claimed the lives of him and his mother decades past. Viktor, alone, dying, and desperate to find out what had taken Jayce follows the coordinates left in one of Jayce's coded journals.

Viktor doesn't expect to come back, but he couldn't have expected what waited for him in that cave. Memory folded like Damascus steel, and he can feel Jayce inside of it. Or something pretending to be him.

Page 7 is back to single page format. We skip to Viktor and Jayce's meeting at the hexgates. Viktor enters from the left, like Ximena in page 1 and to an extent is reminiscent of Viktor's approach in S1 before Jayce's attempt to jump. He says the in-show dialogue, "Despite the circumstances, Jayce, I am... pleased to see you." Jayce is waiting at the hexgates and turns his head to Viktor. The narration also continues, "But it's simpler, really. As we stand on the precipice once again, I realise."

Page 8 is the last and is a single page. Panel 1 is a close-up of Jayce who seems barely able to contain his joy at seeing Viktor again. His expression is subtle with mouth only slightly open, only almost a smile if you really squint, but his eyes are bright. Narration says, "What I am is an open book." Panel 2 to 4 are 2 split panels of herald Viktor and Jayce from waist-up facing each other, in the middle of them is a small flashback panel of the moment Viktor handed Jayce his bracelet. The narration continues, split between Viktor and Jayce, "one with YOUR signature all over its pages." The word your is emphasised. Jayce and Viktor exchange the in-show dialogue, "There must be some part of you still in there." "I am more than I ever was." Signatures, 3-6/8 these spreads were done specifically with the physical book in mind. if you got one, i hope it gave you a somewhat interesting reading experience (or at least not hard to read...)

Page 3 to 4, these are spread pages that are meant to be read together. Page 3 on the left depicts Jayce's sequence and page 4 is Viktor's. One overall narration is shared by both. It starts on top left, accompanying a shot of Jayce's hand on designs of his armor for S2 act 3, "What am I?" The narration continues on the first panel on both pages depicting Jayce's discarded and torn apart councillor suit from his ravine time, and Viktor's cocoon in the commune which is reminiscent of the hexgate. Narration goes, "Finally free from the roles placed upon me, I struggle to assemble the pieces of my identity." "Before me I see prototypes." The second panels depict Jayce putting on his green and purple shirt, reminiscent of the plants Viktor tried to cultivate with the hexcore, while the hexclaw sprouts from Viktor's back in the cocoon, reminiscent of the inventions that Heimerdinger cruelly dismissed. Narration goes, "Holding dreams of a better world, stifled by those in power." The third panels depict Jayce's time in ravine with makeshift brace rising up from the ground, leading to final Jayce putting on his new leg brace. Viktor's side shows his S1 running with his hexcorised leg but eventually falling in despair after Sky's death, and leading to the final transformation in the cocoon as the herald cracks his head. One fold, extending to Viktor's page, depicts mage Viktor, giving a sideeye at our Viktor. Below the blueprints on bottom left is Jayce in his finale look, carrying the hexcorised hammer and walking forward with determination. Panel 3 and 4 cuts to Viktor in the astral space. He says, looking at his hand, "Yes. Although, things have changed. I told you of a path, back then, guided by an invisible hand." Panel 5, Viktor is deep in thought with a small smile, touching his chin. "I have decided." Panel 6 is a quick flashback to Jayce's back in the council room, on the physical book it mirrors the previous page's Viktor flashback. Panel 7, Viktor continues, right hand now holding his left wrist. It will be by MY own hands. I will redefine what I am." The word my is emphasised. A dish Jayce had mentioned before. One his mother had cooked for him when he was a child. Viktor hoped the warm vegetable dish would bring back some nostalgic memories for his partner and improve his mood. But as he stood in the kitchen and looked at his fine creation, he realized there was a problem.

Viktor had never eaten calabacitas before.

Yes, he knew the recipe. He had heard Jayce describe it many times. The vegetables had been cooked to perfection. The spices were correct. All the measurements were fine.

But yet he worried. The perfectionist in him needed to know if it tasted good. "

Post-canon, Jayce and Viktor builds a life at a cottage by the river. Jayce still experiences lingering trauma and bodily issues from his time in the ravine. Viktor, in his Arcane Herald form, is determined to take care of him and starts cooking for him. In the process, he reconnects with his humanity and both of them reminisce about their shared bond. The specific scene depicted is Viktor's first cooking attempt of calabacitas, a dish Jayce loved in his childhood, drawing Jayce away from his fitful sleep and to their cozy kitchen.

My art for In The End, a Jayvik postcanon zine! I love imagining the boys as adventurers travelling across Runeterra, experiencing all they can. The two vastayan children are based on my dogs -- one who passed long ago, one who passed away between drawing this and now. I'm happy they're there.

Jayce and Viktor, clad in adventuring outfits with furred coats and cloaks in red and green, walk along a busy airship pier. Viktor is holding a newspaper schedule and chatting animatedly with Jayce about what he has found. Their matching canes and braces gleam in the sun. Behind them float airships in docks, berthed safely among the cliffs. Two orange and white vastaya children chase each other across the pier; a labourer with jugs strapped to his side carries building supplies, a vastayan couple chats excitedly about their upcoming trip, armed soldiers patrol the busy port. There are banners strung in every colour as if in celebration.
