I have met some people who went on vacation there and were like "yeah I'm gonna move here to get away from all the bad things in the U.S." and I was very "did you look at how many people the cops kill down THERE?"

we are going to a fest this weekend to see a bunch of our favorite bands play and honestly I am trying to tamp down on "I am going to run into at least 3 people I never want to see again because I want to watch music with my friends and don't want to ruin it for myself" feelings.

There's a few things I wish I still got to do and sometimes I envy that the boyfriend could just exist in those spaces without drama because a quiet guy that looks like he could take you on is never a lightning rod in the same way a woman holding her own in a male-dominated space is.

when Covid hit, I realized how stressful being in a band was & having to navigate the minefield of bad actors, gatekeepers, and enablers and how much I didn't miss so much of it. I ended up getting called a 'bad apple' too for being blunt to someone about his bad friends who made things bad for us

I am not as upset about church closures as other people because there was no way to sustain every group having their own building, especially with the attrition of "we no longer attend or live in the area / the diocese has to pay out lawsuit money & people understandably left over those things"

as late as at least the 1950s, certain parishes in Cleveland wouldn't baptize babies who weren't the dominant ethnicity there (my grandparents switched to the Irish parish because the Slovak one wouldn't christen my uncle). A Lithuanian friend said the priest at her parish was that way too.

envious of Lebanon Ohio for going all the way with this when our city won't.

Hearing about this on a Friendsgiving zoom was wild because the only wildlife we're really worried about here as far as bodily harm is, like, ticks or maybe a rabid coyote and not giant hungry bears.

One of my college friends lived in Skagway Alaska and Covid showed up about 6 months after the rest of us were dealing with it but his family was already in lockdown mode because it was when the bears are hungry and you might die if you just go on a hike in the woods behind your town.

despite growing up in a religious household, my dad and I found the 90's and early 2000s era of the 'Church of the Subgenius' very funny and we'd listen to it late at night which really explains a lot honestly.

I was always a kid who got good grades and community college trig broke me. I got a 17% on my first test, a 31% on the second, and on the third, just stared down at the paper, cried, and walked out of class to withdraw that afternoon.

I've been taking a lot of Polaroids this past year and the ones where I left the film in a hot car and it got all weird are my favorite shots.

I was at an academic conference where a presenter was talking about a play but stopped in the middle to do a dramatic reading mid-Powerpoint and it was so memorable and good. She said she was nervous about taking that approach but it was the best one.
