NPS recommended 23 meters and not to approach "within any distance that disturbs or displaces the animal." Read together, one might think that the recommendation was a generally safe distance. www.nps.gov/yell/planyou...
The animals in Yellowstone are wild and dangerous, no matter how docile they may appear to be. The safest (and often best) view of wildlife is from inside a car. Always stay at least 100 yards (91 m) away from bears, wolves, and cougars, and at least 25 yards (23 m) away from all other animals, including bison and elk. If an animal moves closer to you, back away to maintain a safe distance. It's illegal to willfully remain near or approach wildlife, including birds, within any distance that disturbs or displaces the animal.

Binoculars and telephoto lenses always give you a better view than approaching the animal would. Lenses with focal lengths of 300mm or greater are recommended for adequate reach.

Right, anyone can just see the news or the many credible sources that the Wiki page cites -- not sure why people pretend that this information doesn't exist
The genocide has been recognised by a United Nations special committee and commission of inquiry, the International Association of Genocide Scholars, multiple human rights groups, numerous genocide studies and international law scholars, and other experts.

"Local strategists noted the abrupt shift when the Biss attacks stopped earlier this month." www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
In Illinois, an AIPAC-aligned super PAC called Elect Chicago Women, had spent heavily against Biss on TV and digital ads, while also spending more than $4 million on TV ads and mailers boosting Fine. In recent days, another AIPAC-aligned group, Chicago Progressive Partnership, put out ads attacking Abughazaleh and propping up another progressive in the race, Bushra Amiwala, in an apparent effort to split the vote.
“There’s been a strategy shift,” said a person directly familiar with AIPAC’s thinking, granted anonymity to discuss private conversations. “Our primary goal in Illinois is to prevent potential ‘Squad’ members from being elected to Congress.”

The Atlantic editors' contributions to the current political climate (from editor written/approved article titles alone) cannot be overstated. A lot of people only read headlines. This stuff has an impact.

The Atlantic definitely did a lot of rallying
A collection of Atlantic editor-approved headlines for articles that sound, regardless of content, anti-immigrant. The implication is that The Atlantic is complicit in creating the current cultural climate.

I think it says that any reason for any "temporary" redaction will be published in the federal register. It'd be impossible to know if everything was released and what was in the stuff reported as destroyed. They might report that documents were destroyed and that they don't know what was in them.
All communications, memoranda, directives,
logs, or metadata concerning the destruction, deletion, alteration, misplacement, or concealment of documents, recordings, or electronic data related to Epstein, his associates, his detention and death, or any investigative files.

I didn't like his pension bill and neither did the ISC (excerpt attached). I don't think he's right for the moment. "Crisis is not an excuse to abandon the rule of law. It is a summons to defend it. How we respond is the measure of our commitment to the principles of justice we are sworn to uphold"
The financial challenges facing state and local governments in Illinois are well known and significant. In ruling as we have today, we do not mean to minimize the gravity of the State's problems or the magnitude of the difficulty facing our elected representatives. It is our obligation, however, just as it is theirs, to ensure that the law is followed. That is true at all times. It is especially important in times of crisis when, as this case demonstrates, even clear principles and long-standing precedent are threatened. Crisis is not an excuse to abandon the rule of law. It is a summons to defend it. How we respond is the measure of our commitment to the principles of justice we are sworn to uphold.
More than two centuries ago, as adoption of the Constitution of the United States was being
considered by the citizens of our new nation, James Madison wrote:
"If men were angels, no government would be necessary. *** In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself." James Madison, Federalist No. 51 (1788).
Obliging the government to control itself is what we are called upon to do today. The Constitution of Illinois and the precedent of our court admit of only one conclusion: the annuity reduction provisions of Public Act 98-599 enacted by the legislature and signed into law by the Governor violate article XIII, section 5's express prohibition against the diminishment of the benefits of membership in public retirement systems. The circuit court was therefore entirely correct when it declared those provisions void and unenforceable.

Even using a flawed "permanent security" framing for NCVs, people can look up what the counterinsurgency "norms" were to see that what's going on is extremely far from normal tactics and strategy.
• US forces in the Iraq War, high value target, initial phase of the war: NCV of 29-30

• US forces in the Iraq War, rank-and-file jihadist:
NCV significantly lower

• US forces in Afghanistan: NCV of 1

• Israel forces in Gaza: NCV of 15 to 20 for junior Hamas operatives, up to 100 for senior operatives, 300 in one instance of a particularly senior operative, according to unnamed military sources.

> "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring. Often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue." > The advertisement ends with the words "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans."
Tom from the HBO show Succession, surprised that Mark Ravenhead is admitting to not only know the name of Hitler's dog, but also choosing that same name for his own dog. "Tom: Okay. Different spelling? Mark: Yeah."

Or that’s just how one would describe a pro-corporate (free market), tough-on-crime, “government has a moral responsibility to help families” kind of candidate

Overhead of a plane with red dots to indicate the distribution of hit areas on returning planes. Shown as an example of survivorship bias.

When first analyzed, some officers suggested reinforcing the densely hit areas of the planes for all planes. Statisticians explained that, in fact, reinforcing areas of the plane least recorded as damaged was needed.

The planes that did not come back were hit in those areas, and could not contribute to the overall statistics.

In private conversations, some Wall Street executives go much further. One senior investment banker says the disorder and unpredictability of Trump's actions - and those of Elon Musk, the billionaire Tesla chief who has become one of his most senior lieutenants - were greater than many business leaders had anticipated.

[emphasized section]
With hindsight we did not appreciate the nature of what the administration was going to be like," the banker says. "I do believe they are hurting their stated objectives of peace and prosperity."

Interestingly, it does look like the 4th decile in particular has a dip in debt to monthly income ratio (graph attached). But overall — “With inflation outpacing incomes, more people are relying on credit cards to cover everyday expenses.” NPR, Jan 2023 www.npr.org/2023/01/11/1...
A bar chart titled ‘Ratio of Credit Card Debt to Monthly Income’ shows the relationship between income deciles and credit card debt burden. The x-axis represents income deciles from the 1st (lowest income) to the 10th (highest income), while the y-axis represents the ratio of credit card debt to monthly income, ranging from 0% to 100%. The chart indicates that lower-income deciles have a significantly higher ratio of credit card debt to income, with the 1st decile exceeding 80%. The ratio declines as income increases, with the 10th decile having the lowest ratio, close to 10%. The source of the data is the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
