There's been a lot of hardships happening behind the scenes, including missing an appointment thanks to my diabetic retinopathy. I need emergency help with rent. The goal is $800 by Oct 5. Please donate if you can, and share regardless. Thank you for your kindness. www.paypal.com/donate/?host...

I found my new boyfriend today! His name is Arthur Itis, we met at the orthopaedic clinic today. His favorite food is cartilage and he loves the feeling of my ball and socket joint acting like an empty mortar/pestle. We're gonna be together forever!!!! 😭 Fuck being old.

I was 3/4 expecting this article to come from The Onion. When it didn't the first thing I screamed in my head was "DID WE LEARN NOTHING FROM 2020. PUT THAT BACK OR SO HELP ME

At the top of my "Trending" list on the Bluesky right sidebar: "Pope Leo XIV gifted green orb"

Also Tim Curry, who ironically, has a Voltron connection as well - he played the voice of Prince Lotor and King Alfor in the late 90s spin-off Voltron: The Third Dimension. It'd be a bit of irony if it wasn't so devastatingly numbing.

011

Dusty @hellodusty.northsky.social · 29/08/2026

And now, Peter Cullen. I was a little weird, I first heard him in Voltron: Defender of the Universe in the 80s as Coran, King Alfor, and the opening narrator. His iconic voice always begins with "from days of long ago." We should all be strong enough to be gentle.

Okay. Here's the deal. We have lost... pretty much the unanimous moral foundation of our nation. The imperative now. The only way forward. Is to be the kind of person Dolly would have been proud of.

I......... I hope that wherever Dolly Parton's gone to, Mr. Rogers, and Bob Ross, and Steve Irwin, and Betty White are all there ready to welcome her and have a sing-along and drink tea and feed the fishes. She was so important. This one hurts. A lot. Keep travellin' thru, Dolly.

And every bad new convention can make it exponentially harder for another new convention to get off the ground. tl;dr - Con running IS, in fact, a serious business.

080

Dusty @hellodusty.northsky.social · 27/07/2026

So this means two things: 1. It MUST be run as a business, not as a hobby. Complete with all the boring paperwork shit. 2. Without some kind of knowledge (either a related degree or years of staffing) you will make dumb mistakes and shoot yourself in the foot repeatedly. (2/3)

160

Dusty @hellodusty.northsky.social · 27/07/2026

Believe it or not, once I tried to start a convention. Back-of-envelope math estimated an initial $80,000 investment for AV, infrastructure, venue, advertising, website, guests, and staff benefits. And that was 5+ years ago, so it's likely in 6-digit land now. (1/3)

160

Dusty @hellodusty.northsky.social · 27/07/2026

This smells a lot like folks under 25 going YEAH WE CAN DO THIS IT'S EASY and they are soon to find out that starting and running a con is... not. I hope an adult steps into the room or this is going to hurt any other possible IRL BL themed con.

160

Dusty @hellodusty.northsky.social · 27/07/2026

OG Yaoicon attendee and 15-year anime con planner here. Yeah this smacks of overzealous fans going "this has to be easy to do!" Yyyyyeah, no. Unless someone with more experience steps in quick this is going to shoot every other possible IRL BL con in the ass and not in the fun way.

A mascot in the shape of a famous I-75 water tower that reads "Florence, Y'All". The tower is red and white striped and the mascot is wearing a blue baseball outfit.
