Bananas bred to resist browning could expand to more supermarket shelves after passing a major regulatory review last week in the UK. The innovation could reduce food waste, as browning is responsible for roughly 20% of banana yield losses.
Scientists used CRISPR technology (visualize) to alter three genes linked to polyphenol oxidase, an enzyme that causes browning. Unlike traditional genetic modification, this gene editing does not introduce DNA from foreign species and could occur naturally. The change was found to extend the shelf life of peeled bananas by up to 24 hours and make them more resistant to bruising. Gene editing has previously been used to increase vitamin D content in tomatoes and develop sweeter strawberries. The modified bananas have received regulatory approval in 10 other countries, including the US, where they are slated to launch commercially this year.
The Cavendish bananas sold in grocery stores today are the result of over 1,000 years of domestication. The earliest varieties were small with large black seeds

Being clones means modern bananas are vulnerable. If a disease comes along that can kill a banana variety, it will quickly kill the whole crop. That happened in the 1950s, when Panama disease wiped out the Gros Michel banana crop. Today, the bananas we get in stores are called Cavendish bananas — one of many types of bananas - which was resistant to the disease and so took over after Gros Michel nearly went extinct. But because it is also a crop of clones, the Cavendish banana is equally vulnerable to extinction.

And creamy peanut butter (1/2 tbsp). They had caramel like for icecream.

So less than half tsp of that, and on the outside. Butter and a teensy bit of salt and a few granules literally nestle quick and griddled it like grilled cheese cooks.

Work kid said she was hungry and l asked her what she wants.

I have been at work since 0700 (7:00 am). It is now 1300 (1:00 pm). Meaning I have been here 6 hours— and have been awake since 05:15 (5:15 am). I brought red and green grapes, which I ate before 1200 (12:00 pm / noon). I will leave work 1700 (5:00pm) I do not seem to have other foods with me.

I feel that my lifestyle is comfortable. I have no immediate concerns over my next meal. My utilities and sewage are functional. My neighborhood is reasonably quiet. The area in which I live is not overrun with crime. There are three, sometimes four friends, whom I choose to do nice things.
