Defense missions are sort of outliers in the mission types since they're constrained to one location. They can be fun but they get repetitive. If you're just focused on samples and xp then they're worth skipping

Yeah, like I know Durable damage is a thing but I don't even recall exactly how it works in the game and I only know it exists because a YouTube video deepdive into the mechanic.

This isn't an airport. You don't have to announce your departure. I feel (somewhat) bad for YouTubers who tied their brand to Helldivers 2 and now dislike the game but that's also a larger content creator issue.

That's the thing, we only ever get to pick 4 stratagems any given mission. A lot of the complaints about stuff being stuck behind warbonds falls flat to me due to this. Like, I've got most of the warbonds and I try to vary up my picks but still I only use so much of the gear.

I love the mech community. We have our mech dads talking about Battletech and OG Gundam, the Titanfall bros who need to take their pills, the twitchy AC fans, and the toxic yuri hound enjoyers. The one unifying thing is a love of stompy fighty robots...oh also we are all super queer.

I once had a player kill me for picking up his gear while he was dead. I once had someone kick me because I said extraction wouldn't wait. I once had someone who thought samples weren't shared communally. But more often it's just someone inviting their friend or people misunderstanding something.

I've gotta be honest, I find it crazy when players talk about stuff like being kicked "for bringing the wrong loadout" or "at extraction multiple times" like it's a super common thing they encounter often. I have 999 hours in the game and mainly dive SOS and rarely see anything like that.

When people complain about things I often wonder how many are actually bugs vs misunderstood features. "Vox engines go over walls!" = Bug "There's too many enemies on D10 Cyberstan missions and they're constantly calling in more dropships on us!" = Feature

They made design choice to let players fail in spectacular fashion or rise up glorious hard fought wins. One of the reasons this game rocketed to success early on was because of the clips that went viral of people snatching victory from defeat or dealing with a Pelican bug.

Video brings up a point about what Helldivers 2 is doing that other modern shooters aren't. The weightiness, the pressure, the friendly fire, the chaos. So many shooters are afraid to inconvenience the player. HD2 makes it a feature.
