Proud to present my lifesize T. rex head, affectionately named Hannibal. I created this myself from start to finish- digital sculpture, resin 3D printing, painting, etc. Huge thanks to my friend @rj-palmer.com for instrumental crits and redlines during the sculpting process.

Short answer is we don’t really know much at all about the tissues inside the mouth for sure. All we can do is make inferences based on what we do have and from living relatives

My full time job is making sculptures for aquariums, zoos, science centres and museums, so I made it for work basically. I did pitch them the original idea though because I wanted to make one

Thanks- I use industrial scale SLA resin printers. They have a build volume of 1mx1mx60cm. They are suuuuuper expensive (I don’t own them, the company I work for does)

It does have threaded insert on the back to mount on a wall but it’s reeeeal heavy, so I think leaving the supports is smart lol

That’s called a glottis, entrance to the trachea. The same structure you’re thinking about in snake mouths, it’s also visible in birds and other reptiles

Thank you! I find is doesn’t dry quite as hard as the stynylrez so it can gum up the sandpaper a little, but it is absolutely what I’ve been using in the mean time haha

It really takes a lot of forethought and prep to get a 3D printed sculpture this big to be structurally sound and durable. But investing the time in advance saves a LOT of headache down the track. Especially if duplicates end up being needed
