Inanna's story shows us a possible positive purpose and outcome of this. Sometimes we need to reclaim our own power in relationships, and sometimes that will lead to discord initially. Sometimes we also need to attend to internal discord, and sometimes that's uncomfortable, but necessary.

Venus's retrograde could coincide with an experience of Descent, or it may instead indicate a period of reflection. We do not tend to read Venus as a warrior goddess nowadays, though she was in ancient Mesopotamia. But she can be a warrior, in her own way, and particularly when retrograde.

Psyche and Persephone extert agency in less direct ways, as they do not initiate their journeys deliberately. Nonetheless they must navigate tests of an extreme emotional nature, and empathy is, as in Inanna's story, of key importance.

We might understand Ereshkigal as the disowned part of Inanna, her shadow, who, following a bereavement, must be confronted and heard. She is understandably hostile. Inanna's husband then usurps her power - perhaps indicating the ego needing to be kept in check even while the shadow is integrated.

Inanna chooses to visit the underworld to attend the funeral rites of her sister's husband. Her sister, Ereshkigal, is the Queen of the underworld while Inanna is Queen of the upper world.

Inanna's story, and, I suggest, those of Persephone and Psyche in Greek mythology, all contain elements of the same narrative insight. In contrast to the heroic archetype, where we seek out experience and test ourselves, sometimes we must visit a darker place.

The Descent is an archetype of those times in life when we find ourselves outside of the everyday world. Very often this occurs due to challenging events that we haven't chosen, yet nonetheless we may emerge stronger.

I have published an article about archetypes of the Descent. It discusses Inanna (Venus) entering the underworld (retrograde) and I also introduce some other mythical & astrological correlates for the Descent. It was republished on Astrodeinst recently: www.astro.com/astrology/fa...

Joseph Campbell on creativity and letting go.
There's a beautiful letter that Schiller wrote to a young author who was having the trouble that's known as writer's block. This young writer had oh, so much to say, but he couldn't write. This is a normal situation. Schiller said simply, "Your problem is that you're bringing the critical factor into play before you have let the lyric factor work".
Look what happens to us in our schools: we learn to criticise Milton and Shakespeare and Goethe and everybody else, and then the teacher says, "Now do some creative work". You sit down and this bit of spilth begins coming out and you think, Oh, my God! That's nothing. Of course you can't write like Shakespeare, but you can write like you, perhaps, if you let yourself go.

— Joseph Campbell, Goddesses

I think a major lesson of Saturn in ♈️ is teaching ourselves to develop courage & bravery. This is not a time to allow our fears to dictate our actions. Fear is a teacher, leading us to be more careful & cautious. But too often it paralyzes us. Taking small steps onto new paths is how we get going.

Roberto Assagioli on self-love.
In the case of self-love, all depends on what we love in ourselves and how we love it. It is truly egotism if we love the egocentric and separative aspects in us, the craving of pleasure, possessions, and domination. But if we love what is higher and best in ourselves, what we are essentially, if we love our potentialities for growth, development, creative ability, and communion with others, then this love, devoid of egotism, urges us to live a life of higher quality. This love is then not only not an obstacle to loving others in the same way but, rather, a powerful means for doing so.

This is a Roman calendar (a parapegma) that marked the date with three wooden pegs. One peg was placed over one of the seven gods representing the days of the week (starting with Saturn for Saturday). Another peg was placed over a zodiac sign for the month, and the third over the day number.

And eclipses have for millennia been associated with the downfall of leaders and notables.... in fact Farage is a solar figure in many ways, with Sun exalted and copresent with domicile ruler Mars. He embodies the shadow side: egotistical and self-interested. With Uranus on his MC, you never know.

The advantage if Binface should win, as well as sending a message against the populist far right, is hopefully his DOB would be made available. And stranger things have happened, when Uranus is involved... Further info: countbinface.com www.msn.com/en-gb/news/u... edition.cnn.com/2026/07/09/u...

For comedian Jon Harvey, who plays Count Binface, I only have his month of birth: May 1980. Late May would give him a Gemini Sun, which Uranus would be transiting. May 21st would give him a Leo Moon, thus being impacted by the eclipse also. But unfortunately this is just idle speculation. 😂

Heliodora @heliodora.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Farage had a comfortable majority and still polls at ~70% locally, although if Binface wins a projected 20% this could still be embarrassing for him. He is having an interesting time: a solar eclipse taking place in his 12th House; Saturn on his Sun; Neptune on his Mars; and Uranus on his MC.
Virgo rising chart of Nigel Farage, with Pluto exactly on his Ascendant and Uranus also widely conjunct in the first Whole Sign House. Sun, Mars and Jupiter are in Aries, the 8th WSH. Moon is in the late degrees of Sagittarius. Saturn and Chiron in 7th House Pisces. Neptune is in the Scorpio 3rd House trining Chiron, while Black Moon Lilith is conjunct the IC in Sagittarius. His North Node is in Cancer.

The transiting Sun, Jupiter, Mercury and Moon are in his Leo 12th House as the Eclipse is building. Saturn is conjunct his Sun, Neptune on his Mars, Mars approaching his NN, and Uranus is applying by retrograde for a second hit to his MC in Gemini.

Farage called the by-election in a strop at the suggestion that he might answer queries about a £5m donation from a crypto billionaire just before standing as an MP. The major political parties boycotted the process, opening the field to a plethora of even-less-serious candidates.

Loving the proximity of tomorrow's solar eclipse to the Clacton by-election, where far right candidate and incumbent Nigel Farage is facing down satirical character Count Binface, along with 32 others. The eclipse, one day before the by-election, will be 90+% visible in the UK.

I love this passage, from the introduction of Kastrup's Decoding Jung’s Metaphysics - and it resonates powerfully with the fact that birth charts still appear to function, sometimes long after death
As we shall soon find out, for Jung life and world are something very different from what our present mainstream metaphysics - materialism - posits. The conclusions his lifelong studies point to the continuation of psychic life beyond bodily death, a much more intimate and direct relationship between matter and psyche than most would dare magine today, and a living universe pregnant with symbolic meaning. For him life is, quite literally, a kind of dream, and interpretable as such.

OK I got curious - wasn't ready for how dark these are, and thought Taurus Venus would be nicer somehow! But I'll be honest, I really like the deep grey of my rising sign.
Colour chart for astrological placements. Aries Sun is signal flame - a bright orange-red. Scorpio moon is plum depth - indeed a plum colour. Capricorn rising is tailored graphite - a deep grey. Taurus Venus is rose clay - a grey-pink.

These are just a few thoughts right now which I'll aim to form into a longer article soon... Sources: data from astro-seek Barbault, A. 2014. Planetary Cycles: Mundane Astrology

To draw on Barbault once more, for him the current Uranus-Pluto cycle, beginning with the conjunction in 1965-66, is concerned with the decline of the West. And we know that, historically, empires with extreme wealth & power differentials tend to become politically unstable and in some cases fall.
110
Heliodora @heliodora.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
The 'ultimate in tech achievements', as Barbault has it, brings massive wealth inequality and power differentials. When you combine Uranus (unpredictable innovation) and Pluto (the drive for power for self preservation), you may get incredible feats of technology, but there is down side.

Heliodora @heliodora.bsky.social · 18/07/2026
Because transits mark processes, specific, noticeable events related to them may occur on -or around- the dates of exact aspects. For me, this first hit is very close to the pronouncement of the world's first trillionaire - the head of multiple tech companies and known power-seeker - in mid-June.

The table shows the dance, where one planet or the other is retrograde each time, and they meet at varying degrees across the first decans of Gemini and Aquarius. This is a peak period of technological and social transformation, and this dance likely marks some twists and turns in this journey.

Uranus △ Pluto has been in orb for years but today enters a 2-year period of 5 exact hits. From Andre Barbault: When Pluto with its Thanatos-like powers is aligned with the promethean powers of Uranus there has to be the kind of progress that brings us the ultimate in technological achievements
Uranus trine Pluto illustration on the left, and, on the right, a table listing the dates and degrees this aspect goes exact. These are 18th July 2026 at 4°29 of Gemini and Aquarius respectively; 29th November 2026 at 3°31 of Gemini and Aquarius; 15th June 2027 at 6°52 of Gemini and Aquarius; 13th January 2028 at 4°29 of Gemini and Aquarius; and 10th May 2028 at 8°49 of Gemini and Aquarius
