mina is NOT a bad game. i can tell there was a lot of love, care, and craft mixed in there. and if you like it, that's awesome! the end result is just a bad game for me. maybe i'll revisit it one day, but for now, i'm going to just shove it out of my brain completely.

those two things just never jived with me, despite the mitigations the devs put in to the main game in the form of trinkets (for plasma/health) and weapon/sidearm choices. never found a good combo that made me feel comfortable in the way a shield/katana/pyro does in DS3, for example.

i've played (and enjoyed!) plenty of souls games to understand what fair vs. unfair is in my world. mina feels very unfair for two reasons: the absurd restrictions on attack direction versus enemy movement patterns, and the plasma/health system.

sure, there are ways to "get around" the parts i feel are questionable, both in game via modifiers and outside via something like cheat engine. that defeats the purpose of my first playthrough being "dev intended" which is my strong preference. they made it that way. i want to give it a chance!

i haven't felt this disappointed in any game in a very long time. the highs (visuals, music) are dragged down by the lows (control and uneven/"unfair" challenge). i (repeatedly) voiced my feelings on stream, and i haven't felt this good about uninstalling a title in a hot minute. 😅

yes, i made a 30+ slide powerpoint and accompanying 12-page document to share on an upcoming "video game" stream. that's totally normal, isn't it? thought so.

will be taking a (hopefully) brief hiatus from streaming after tonight as i need to pack up "the studio" for a few weeks. getting flooring replaced in the condo, then as soon as that's done, i'll be looking to adopt a dog! with some luck, the first stream back will feature a new friend. :)

it's a partial screencap from my playthrough of Final Fantasy X. HD version but PS2-era model.

turns out my brother still had this relic of the 2010s. going to see if it works and if so, i'm going to stream some (very) dumb games in january 😆

thanks for sharing! makes it so much easier to build with confidence when comparing with other good builds. :)

helf @helfmyselp.com · 21/12/2024

do you mind sharing your potential build specs? i'm looking to upgrade from a 5800x soon-ish and have a similar budget. thinking 9800x3d (when the prices are realistic again) but i'm also waiting for the 9900x3d/9950x3d and 5080/5070 reviews in jan.

helf @helfmyselp.com · 10/12/2024

and on the flipside, well...this is not how i expected this to look at the start of 2024. 'twas a year of big changes, i suppose, and i'm starting to feel like i belong again.

helf @helfmyselp.com · 10/12/2024

i have no idea how i even streamed 120 times this year with everything that happened between March and August... huge thanks to everyone for the support!

up first: the Mario stuff!

ended up taking over 30 photos of the content of those sketch pads. not everything is dated, but most are between 1992 and 1995. i think there are some things from various art classes i took as a kid - mostly the pastel, charcoal, and pen stuff.

140

helf @helfmyselp.com · 27/11/2024

while searching for something in my closet, i stumbled across all these old sketch pads. guessing they're from 1993-1995 or so. depending on what's in them, i might share pics here and/or show on stream.

just started working on my first year-end presentation for the first franchise location of cleveland_tom Industries. hoping that my effort is good enough for the big guy! 🤞
