I’ve spent a week testing rice varieties for basic home-cooked paella: the winner is J Sendra by a wide margin, for its creamy interior and great socarrat. Albufera (a cross of Sénia and Bomba) is a good choice for fiestas, when you want the grain to hold up, but maybe not so much for the kitchen.

This is a strong and thought-provoking piece. I’ve been aware of divergent attitudes to Israel on either side of the Irish Sea since I visited the tiny Jewish museum in south Dublin, testament to a vanished community

Agree the Garvaghy Road dispute has the potential to bring down power-sharing. And ‘gesture of tribal superiority’ - that’s what it looks like. This is the most contentious march in NI. How did the Parades Commission reach such a determination?

So many former flashpoints in Northern Ireland are now peaceful. Residents and the Order have, to their credit, sat down and worked something out. Would have been great if Garvaghy was the same but unfortunately a section of unionism wanted this fight.
