Having an odd problem with my 2015 MacBook Air. Used to be my daughter's and when I acquired it, I used it for a couple of months before upgrading. Left it dormant for a bit. When I next booted it, there was a firmware lock. #Apple can't/won't help because it's "obsolete". Still has decent specs.
