Two proposals were offered to me. The first was that we post our Euler result, and that OpenAI post its Navier-Stokes result the next day. The second was that, after posting Euler, I alone write a paper presenting the Navier-Stokes result, acknowledging that an internal OpenAI model had resolved it. Sebastien twice asserted that he wanted Levent removed from authorship, and said it would all be simple if only it were not the case that, and it was so annoying that, Levent works at Anthropic. It was also said that if OpenAI posted after us, they would say that we deserved the Clay Prize, and that we were the "closest humans to the problem". I declined both offers.
I said that if OpenAI released its result in the way proposed I would go public with what happened. The reply was, "Why would you ruin your career?" I replied that I am an academic, and asked why he thought going public would ruin my career. The reply was,
"If you don't want me to be nice, then I don't
have to be nice."

Might it be, that you used Flatpaks or Snaps on Mint/Ubuntu and installed them thru their "App-Shops/Stores"? Cause Flatpaks and Snaps are like containerized software that ship all dependencies inside the container therefore you don't need so much tinkering there compared to AUR/Arch/no-Flatpak

Pop! and Mint are based on Ubuntu and use the same package base. All three distributions are good to use for new users. Ubuntu 26.04 is the latest Version of Ubuntu. I'm unsure about increasing storage on S76 later but it is possible with Framework laptops -> frame.work

Try using an AUR-helper like "yay" and look for your software in the AURs. There you can get most of the software. github.com/Jguer/yay aur.archlinux.org

no ubuntu user here so I just heard from this by your post. After looking stuff up like wth Canonical took a big L there. Any chance for you to roll back to 6.17?

people are complaining en masse about Copilot being baked in practically everything by Microsoft but now Omarchy planning to ship it as part of their OS seems like an odd choice for me

Microsoft has gone full obnoxious with "Upgrade your plan" in Office. The button doesn't go away and will drown out everything else in Word, including the name of the file you're editing. If you needed evidence MSFT is panicked over retail Copilot sales, this is pretty compelling evidence.

using Ivanti VPN with 2FA on Linux is such a pain. Since the last update the AUR package isn't working for me anymore and on Fedora there are dependencies that do not even exist anymore (webkit2gtk3). Sadly there is no alternative at work in sight yet

Does it seem unlikely that an authoritarian US government uses the Cloud Act to get research data from foreign universities to take advantage of?

Scott @heinoscott.de · 14/04/2026
I really wish for universities ditching Microsoft for open source alternatives. Problem remains, that Microsoft makes the licenses for student accounts provided by the universities free. Therefore it is much cheaper to stay with Microsoft and an out-of-the-box working system like M365

I keep getting surprised by our friends from over the big water. Like it is not yet another war but just a big F for every internet user. The next big F besides the age verification OS stuff ofc. But if EU wants to step back from US-Tech we are the evil ones, right. heise.de/-11222049

The USA will only allow routers manufactured in the country for consumers from now on. However, such models do not exist.

Worried Europe is too reliant on US tech? Our data shows you’re likely in the majority. Surveying 3,000 people in the UK 🇬🇧, Germany 🇩🇪, and France 🇫🇷, we found that 8 out of 10 consumers are concerned about US tech dependence. 🇺🇸 Let's dig into our findings... 1/11

What do you use for enterprise IT infrastructure monitoring? Like host stats of linux/win servers, microservices etc.? Currently looking for alternatives for the system we use. Icinga, Grafana-Prometheus stuff, what are you people using?

The second picture shows an older person smirking; they are called "Veteran Linux users who are just happy that more people are appreciating it."

the Android on my phone just bricked itself out of nowhere for now reason. Factory reset doesn't work. Just flashing Android onto a sd card and install it like a desktop OS? Naaa, that would be to easy you need a phd in Google for this... Good thing is, no calls untill the new phone arrives

I finished writing my last paper before I can start with my Bachelor's thesis. I wrote and formatted the whole paper in #LibreOffice. 10/10 as easy to work with as Word/M365 or whatever you call it. Not missing any functionalities, highly recommend!
