Our paper about predicting cell fates from combinatorial signals in 2D human gastruloids received a preprint highlight in @dev-journal.bsky.social Thank you @ancheldjs.bsky.social for a great perspective piece on our work! 👉 journals.biologists.com/dev/article/...

New preprint! We show that cell fate can be predicted from a snapshot of combinatorial signaling — and the underlying map is a single angle in signaling space. Work by first authors Bassit Fijabi and Seth Teague and collaboration with @davidbrueckner.bsky.social. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Issue 3 is complete! On the cover: Immunofluorescence staining of phosphorylated FGFR1 (magenta), TBXT (yellow) and β-catenin (cyan) in 2D human gastruloids. See the Research Article by Idse Heemskerk and colleagues (@heemskerklab.bsky.social) here: doi.org/10.1242/dev....
Cover: Immunofluorescence staining of phosphorylated FGFR1 (magenta), TBXT (yellow) and β-catenin (cyan) in 2D human gastruloids. The spatial pattern of phosphorylated FGFR1 matches ERK activity observed during primitive streak-like differentiation. See Research Article by Jo, Liu et al. (dev205459).

After being reviewed as a preprint in Elife our paper about endogenous FGF signaling in 2D human gastruloids is now published in Development: journals.biologists.com/dev/article-...

Endogenous FGFs drive ERK-dependent cell fate patterning in 2D human gastruloids
Summary: In a 2D gastruloid model for human gastrulation, FGF4 and FGF17 signal through basolateral receptors to induce primitive streak-like cells and derivatives, potentially restricted by FGF8.

#AcademicSky
A bunch of people dressed in construction clothes stand around, watching as a single person digs a hole.

The person digging the hole is labeled “faculty.”

The people standing around watching are labeled “director, human resources,” “VP, research, innovation, and economic development,” “director, innovation management,” “AVP, institutional research,” “AVP, academic planning,” “AVP, faculty development,” “associate dean,” “dean,” “VP, finance,” and “provost”.

The caption reads: “Due to cutbacks, we will need to reduce the number of faculty.”
