And who suffers for that? The same ones who always do: the women who are powerless to protect themselves from men who think our only purpose is to be used by them. Whether as a prop in a political letter or an object of sexual gratification in a group chat. We're all being used by someone.

And what I need our people to understand is that this is hypocrisy. This is what it looks like. You tell women how valued and important they are, then proceed without them in important matters of public interest. We can see you talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Sending these letters with no input or discussion with women has taught our male leadership that our input doesn't matter. They can proceed without our voices, our perspectives, and our contributions. They didn't believe we have anything of substance or importance to give in these communications.

Young Women deserve to go to safe schools where the threat of physical and sexual violence don't hang over them. I would say that's a political issue in which the Church should have a vested interest as a concerned moral authority. They have an actual stake in this issue. So where's the letter?

That's the problem with setting yourself up to be the moral voice on political issues, purely at your own discretion. The things you stay silent on as leadership reveal your biases, your flawed priorities, and the victims of abuse and oppression you truly don't care about.

They care about pregnancy outcomes so long as women and girls are forced to carry pregnancies to term. They don't care about any potential violence in how those pregnancies occurred. Our Young Women can go to a school where rape culture is rampant and openly known, and they don't say a word.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints needs to be honest with the messages they're sending in Idaho with their political letters. Because what it looks like now is our male leadership doesn't grasp the danger that all women currently live under, especially our young women.

The young women at Timberline who are afraid to go to school now should be our concern. How many LDS girls go to that school? And why does *that* thought compel us to think about this differently, but not that this happens to any young woman at all, regardless of her affiliation with us?

You don't get to this point with the violence of young men without a clear and demonstrated history of ignoring and dismissing violence against women. This is how the Cornell 7 and the Timberline 4 happen. They happen through a conspiracy of inaction in continuing sexual violence.

What really grinds my gears is that the Area Presidency had time to interfere in an election to condemn women in Idaho to worsening health care outcomes... But they didn't have time for this?

My husband can truly fix anything. He resurrected the thing with parts and tools and banging. There were two or three days of noises on the other side of the bedroom wall. Then there was air conditioning again. So many things he can do are indistinguishable from magic to me.

Isaiah was famously sent by God to warn Judah that trusting in empire would lead to their destruction. Invoking the voice of God to promote asinine military campaigns is taking the Lord’s name in vain.

What if they're trying to shove as much of our human knowledge and experience into this repository as possible, for their own benefit, because they fully intend to be the only ones who survive?

What if there is something so much more sinister about AI than just exploitation and greed? What if the Apocalypse Bunker class has fully embraced our complete destruction by climate change, and AI is how they intend to mimic society once we're all gone?

That's how much God cares about women. We have to believe in a God where our pain matters, where there are extreme consequences for hurting us in the worst ways imaginable, or we've imagined a God who is fundamentally unjust. Mormonism and its men should think about that more.

Heather M. Collins🗽 @heathersdesk.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
When men hurt women to such an extreme, there are extreme consequences for that treatment. The permanent loss of God's favor, even once we have obtained divine forgiveness, is something I want my people to understand better. You can repent, be forgiven, and still never fully recover, like David.

Our scriptures teach, even when our people haven't always understood, that David kidnapped and raped Bathsheba, murdered her husband, forced her into marriage, and caused God to kill their son in punishment because of David's sin. He caused suffering to Bathsheba that can never be undone.

It's why we call them kingdoms of degrees. And in the highest kingdom of glory, the Celestial Kingdom, is to live with God the Father and to inherit as heirs. But David isn't going there. He has lost his exaltation. And there is nothing he can do to change that, even with God's forgiveness.

It's important to note that Mormons don't believe in the Christian notion of Hell, a permanent state of being imprisoned, tortured, and punished. In our cosmology, everyone has rewards to look forward to in the Afterlife. There will be joy, peace, and rest for everyone.

And as it was in the ancient Biblical world, we involved God in our practice of polygamy as a people. And one of the lessons God had to teach was that polygamy isn't always practiced in righteousness. And when it isn't, there are consequences. We believe God used David as an example of that.

Precursor to this for anyone in the audience who isn't Mormon: We have an open scriptural canon that includes more than just the Bible and The Book of Mormon. This is from one of our other books of scripture. We're also one of the few religious traditions to practice polygamy in modernity.

You know what? I take that back. There IS forgiveness for David. But there is no second chance to get it right. There are consequences that involve permanent losses in our standing before God. And no amount of divine love changes that. That's how much God cares about women and their pain.

Heather M. Collins🗽 @heathersdesk.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
"Heather. Come on. Mormonism?" Yes, and here is today's reason. Because in MY religious tradition, David is *never* going to the Celestial Kingdom for what he did to Bathsheba. There is no forgiveness for him. Not from her, and not from God. And Mormon men should f🤬king think about that more.

This is an absolute travesty. Northwestern has, probably, the 2nd best library collection for African History/Studies in the USA (behind Yale and ahead of MSU, UCLA, etc). A self-inflicted wound that is absolutely, 100% unnecessary given the massive wealth of Northwestern--north of $15 billion.
