I have been around here for a while (I’ve been mostly over on threads) and I’m still just trying to find my sweet education spot after trying to not be on the bird app.

Book 30: Mathematics for Human Flourishing by Francis Su. I was a little intimidated because I’ve struggled with math since early childhood (for many reasons outlined in this book!). This book is causing some change to my math teaching!

Book 29: Wondrous Words by Katie Wood Ray and Stella Villalba I have so many ideas and had my brain spark in so many ways while reading this. There are so many ideas for writing workshop (specifically around using mentor text) in here and…it’s awesome. Highly recommend!

Sometimes as an elementary teacher, you’ve got brilliant high school friends like @heymrsbond.com and wonder if you can take their amazing lesson and scaffold it down to 2nd grade. And it turns out to be so beautiful (I have the best friends for so many reasons)

Book 28: the September prompt for the reading challenge I do is translated literature and I finished it early. Minor Detail by Adania Shibli is so beautifully written but really hard to read. It felt like such an important book.

I’m not a great help on this one as I’m K-2 and haven’t had any cell phone issues ❤️ (most of my kids don’t have them yet)

Book 27: Oh Crap! Potty Training by Jamie Glowacki Lots of great info and I love that it wasn’t rewards based (because I don’t go that route).

Book 25 The Witchlings: Golden Frog Games (Book 2) by Claribel A Ortega I knew this one was going to be great (I read book 1 a while ago and kind of forgot plot points!). With book 4 coming out soon…I have catching up to do! But I loved it. I love the characters and the story ❤️

Books 22, 23 and 24 The Bucket Series by @mrtomrad.bsky.social I love these! I’m going to read them aloud to my second graders this coming year. There is SO much social-emotional learning woven into these stories. Highly recommend!!!

Book 21: Beyond Compliance in Early Childhood Education edited by Maggie Beneke and Hailey R Love There’s A LOT in here, but some favorite chapters were about how families push against oppressive systems in school through resistance and one about how to see sped through a decolonial framework

By ratting on Jesse Ventura's unionization efforts, Hulk Hogan denied all of his coworkers, and generations of performers who came after him, insurance and a retirement fund, and in that, shares in responsibility for the early deaths of several other wrestlers.

If you are a school leader, promoting ideas that teachers shouldn’t be afraid to fail… Just remember that we are evaluated every year. That weighs HEAVILY on some teachers and the risks they are willing to take. Evaluations can be detrimental to us.

I was also thinking about the people who complain about community supplies but also get upset that no one showed up for their kid’s birthday party…💀

Book 20: Dirty Rocker Boys by Bobbie Brown. This one is definitely an adult book…with lots of stories. People are named and…stories are told 😬.

Book 19: So Gay for You by Leisha Hailey and Kate Moennig A memoir told in alternating chapter by the two authors. If you enjoyed The L Word, you’ll definitely like this one. A story of growing up, queerness and friendship.

Yep. At face value mine were “fine” because they were taught to ignore bad things. But in their stories there were little clues that the iceberg was big (and reflected in how they parented, and how I got parented). They weren’t fine…

Sometimes I think about the dude who interviewed me for his podcast and because of pendulum swings never actually published mine 😂 (I talked about the practice of listening to kids read 1:1 because you not only build relationship by giving them individual time but see what they can do as a whole)

I know better than to put hot takes on threads 😂 But really in Kinder I had my kids put a bathroom pass on their desk and just go. They didn’t need to ask. I knew where they were and no one has been lost So many teachers are so uncomfortable with even the tiniest ways of sharing control.

Book 18: Rebel Girl by Kathleen Hanna I’m deep in life stories right now and I love PNW music life stories. This one made me mourn Kurt, dislike Courtney more than I do and…love Krist. It was a really interesting and full of heart read.

Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery. It's theft and I'm tired of mediocre copy paper people doing it to Black women.
