Thanks. I hope you didn't mind my asking. Every reminder of that day must be awful for you. fwiw, my best guess was still only about a 20% chance even with the timing. But I think the medics would have known at the time, it was certainly being looked for. If you heard not, that probably means not.

Is it known one way or the other whether the PE was caused by VITT ? I'm guessing it probably wasn't ?

not quite: the new software + conventional hardware together can make an "inventive step" -- but to be "*inventive*" what is new that is taught or achieved has to relate to something more than what is excluded from "invention" (=== it has to be 'technical').

"has to be found in the non-program bits" -- or in what the program bits acting on the non-program bits actually achieve but: the difference in what they produce has to be more concrete than just information

The MoJ continues to be truly terrible for transparency and open data. They haven’t commented for this article, but I will bet money that the reason turns out to be they want to licence the data out to a company that will then charge a *massive* markup on it, making it inaccessible to the public.

... assuming statistical independence between the 4 interceptors. But failure modes are often *not* statistically independent : if something has caused one interceptor to miss, the same thing may make another interceptor more likely to miss

I do still think though that the old design was much more human-welcoming, even if it had less functionality and even if there may have been a handful of places it had problems with. Would it not be possible to retain both designs, with a prominent link on each page to go to see the other view?

Thanks. I've updated Wikidata's link formatter, so the current 12,270 links from wikidata statements like www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q224580... should switch over to the new URLs in the next 24 to 48 hours.

@englishplacenames.bsky.social Has the user-friendly version of the survey fallen off the internet? The pages like epns.nottingham.ac.uk/browse/id/53... no longer seem to be accessible The alternative sepn.nottingham.ac.uk/view-only/da... works, but is a lot less welcoming

Not helping, that even when there is/was a Canmore summary, they don't show it on the default visible tab -- so when you first look at the page, there's usually *nothing* to tell you about what the item represents

@natlibscot.bsky.social The link-checker on the WikiTree genealogy site is giving me a lot of HTTP 405 "method not allowed" errors for links to pages from your trade directories on NLS digital. (eg: plus.wikitree.com/function/WTS... ) Any idea why this is? The links seem to work fine for humans.

1200 links for individuals from wikidata & English Wikipedia broken & can't be repaired -- just because the new site doesn't expose a URL for them. Carelessness or half wittedness ? Nobody from Oxford seems reachable about it

In respect of King's, did anyone mention the transfer of #PASE (Prosopography of Anglo-Saxon England) to Oxford, and rebuild of that site, which broke all incoming links for individuals, without even replacements ?

The plus side of human-meaningful uris is they do give a sanity check as to whether you're linking to the sort of object you want; and what the items in a triple stand for

J. Heald @heald-j.bsky.social · 03/07/2025
KGIH look to have avoided this worst case as i) uris not so sensitive (?); ii) redirects possible; iii) new uri discoverable from carried-forward identifier hash, at least from sparql (assuming the identifier bit does get carried forward)

J. Heald @heald-j.bsky.social · 03/07/2025
Worst case is if eg new info => new year of birth => new uri, with no redirect & undiscoverable from the old. (Here's looking at you, Art UK!)
